2018: Joint solution Teradata and Cisco for "the smart city"

The corporation Teradata in March, 2018 announced cooperation with the company Cisco in the development area of the specialized solution on digital transformation for smart cities and local communities. As envisioned by partners, a system will integrate IoT- the platform Cisco Kinetic for Cities and the analytical Teradata Analytics Platform platform. The solution will allow the cities to become "more smart" and to expand network capabilities thanks to the platform for exchange of the integrated data.

The Cisco Kinetic for Cities platform is intended for safe collecting, consolidation and standardization of operational data from city networks. Teradata of one of the first companies specializing in area of the analysis of the corporate data connected to this platform. The company will provide intellectual data management, including their processing and the analysis, continuous data lifecycle management and their enrichment. In turn, it will allow the cities and local communities to obtain valuable analytical information for increase in efficiency, public security and service quality of the population and also for creation of new sources of income generation.

Process of data collection and management of them within one city is often decentralized, and data are scattered on departments. At the same time each head of the city administration creates the data set and tools for management of specific city objects. Such approach complicates data view in city scales: for this purpose it is necessary to integrate separate data, consider in Teradata.

The Cisco Kinetic for Cities platform allows the cities to collect, to integrate and standardize information from diverse and separate city sources, including, for example, data on traffic, lighting and parkings. Having integrated these operational data from sensors with other information which is available in the city, for example, the data from payment systems given about moods among the population and data from the analytical systems, the Teradata platform can execute their processing using tools of the ordering and predictive analytics and also create visualization, simple for understanding, in order that the management of the city could make more competent and weighed decisions.

According to the statement of Teradata, such integrated solution is capable to reveal, for example, automatically cases of violation of security and to create notifications, to localize jams in traffic and, besides, to optimize operation of traffic lights for decrease in transport jams or assessment of alternative routes to reduce arrival time of rescue services.
