Among changes in the principles of support of development of the "smart" cities and communities the strategy of creation of digital platforms and solutions of Cisco is coordinated with the strategy of development of the unified platform of Internet of Things (Internet of Things, IoT) Cisco Kinetic. Cisco Kinetic for Cities

The horizontal platform of the aggregation of data aimed at satisfaction of needs of the cities and local communities. On its basis creation of various solutions and applications will continue what the developers representing Cisco, partners and the independent companies will be helped by constantly extending set of the application programming interfaces (API) with. In November, 2017 on the World congress on improvement of quality of life in the cities (Smart City Expo World Congress) the Cisco company provided additional functionality for the connected digital Cisco Kinetic for Cities platform integrated with the platform of processing of IoT-data Cisco Kinetic. New features are intended for increase in public security. All of them — from new options of automation with a full support the politician to the upgraded command center with integration of video — first of all are aimed at security of inhabitants. Now for acceleration of a call of rescue services means of the operational notification about emergencies use additional sources of IoT-data and the solution Cisco Spark™ Collaboration.

2020: Cisco announced the termination of development of the project in the field of "the smart city"

Cisco will stop sales of the Cisco Kinetic for Cities software product in April, 2021, but will perform technical support to users of a product till 2024, reports the The Wall Street Journal edition in December, 2020.

Cisco Kinetic is a cloud platform which aggregates data from the connected objects, processes them and transfers to IoT-applications. This product was started by the company in 2017 after acquisition for 1.4 billion dollars of Jasper Technologies company which solutions formed the basis of the Kinetic for Cities platform.

According to experts, Cisco was forced to refuse development of the project in the field of smart city as in a pandemic solutions in the field of information security became the most demanded. Against the background of a coronavirus pandemic the revenues of the budget of the cities decreased therefore projects in the field of Smart City were necessary to reduce financing. Survey conducted in June in the USA showed that 65% of the American cities postpone or cancel projects on development of city infrastructure.

2018: Joint solution Teradata and Cisco for "the smart city"

The Teradata corporation in March, 2018 announced cooperation with Cisco company in the development area of the specialized solution on digital transformation for smart cities and local communities. As envisioned by partners, a system will integrate the Cisco Kinetic for Cities IoT-platform and the analytical Teradata Analytics Platform platform.
