2024: Service Launch

The Wink online cinema, part of the Rostelecom ecosystem, has launched the Wink Music music service. This became known in September 2024. The new streaming service is already available for mobile users in the AppStore and Google Play app stores. The application provides access to a music catalog of more than 70 million songs, although it is still in beta testing.

According to Kommersant, Wink Music is based on the music streaming Sound, which is part of the Sberbank ecosystem. There are no new foreign albums in the catalog, since after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, many foreign companies suspended cooperation with Russian services. Subscription to the service for T2 subscribers will cost ₽149 per month with a trial free period of 30 days. Music streaming is also included in the Wink All in One multimedia package.

Investments in the launch of the service are estimated at 20-50 million ₽, but Rostelecom representatives do not disclose the exact figures. Experts point out that the move is logical for the company, as music content helps keep users within ecosystem subscriptions. However, according to participants in the music market, the success of the service by 2025 may be limited by high competition in the market and the need for large investments in marketing.

According to the general director of music streaming Wink Anton Volodkin, the appearance of a music service inside the cinema platform is a natural development, since soundtracks for films and TV series affect the popularity of musical works. In the future, Wink Music will have exclusive music projects, which should additionally attract users.^[1]
