Customers: Nissan Motor

Mechanical and Instrument Engineering

Contractors: Haptx

Project date: 2019/03

In the middle of March, 2019 the division of Nissan Design in cooperation of Haptx was provided by possibilities of application of virtual reality for design of cars.

The autoindustry is ready to invest heavily in development of technologies of virtual reality as they should replace expensive full-scale physical prototypes. But designers of cars face serious obstacles: controllers of virtual reality have no realistic touch feedback and interfere with natural interaction of designers with the models.

The automobile industry was come to the rescue by the developer of devices of virtual reality Haptx. HHaptxmakes VR gloves are capable to transfer to the user tactile feelings thanks to 130 tiny mechanisms and by that allow to feel touch to things in virtual environment. Designers of Nissan use Haptx gloves for interaction with three-dimensional models: new opportunities of virtual reality allow to estimate projects with complete effect of immersion which only physical models could provide earlier.

Haptx gloves allow designers to create quickly new iterations, using tactile prototypes. This innovation is capable to revolutionize design process and to provide huge saving of time and costs. Nissan - the first car maker in Japan who uses gloves of virtual reality Haptx. Nissan already provided several cars which design was developed using Haptx technologies, including the electric vehicles Nissan Leaf and Nissan IM and also the conceptual sports luxury car.

Haptx, in turn, is not limited to automotive industry and already announced cooperation with FundamentalVR for creation of VR gloves which surgeons will be able to use.[1]
