SIMETRA has created a transport model of the Kazan agglomeration

Customers: Road safety (MBU DBD)

Kazan; State and social structures

Product: IT outsourcing projects

Project date: 2022/05

2023: Building the "digital twin" of urban agglomeration

SIMETRA has developed a "digital twin" of the Kazan urban agglomeration, which includes the city of Kazan and six adjacent administrative regions. The model will allow you to determine and rank measures for the effective development of the transport system of the region. The customer of the work was the state budgetary institution "Road Safety." Simetra announced this on September 28, 2023.

Work on the creation of a transport model lasted from January to September 2023. To obtain primary data, the SIMETRA team conducted a field study of passenger and transport flows. As well as a sociological survey of the population, as a result of which three thousand relevant questionnaires were obtained with the data necessary for research from residents of the region. Retrospective transaction data on 125 public transport routes were analyzed. The street and road network was also digitized: the characteristics of each of its sections, the organization of traffic and public transport routes, and much more.

The information received along with the data of urban planning documents formed the basis of the Kazan agglomeration model. In addition, SIMETRA specialists have developed forecast models for the planning horizons 2025, 2030, 2035 and 2040. Each of them shows the average annual daily traffic intensity, as well as individual models for the morning and evening peak hours.

The transport model is an effective working tool that allows you to get a fairly accurate forecast of the transport situation and calculate options for the development of the region's transport system for many years to come, "said Rifkat Minnikhanov, President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan.

We have developed a model that, in addition to all transport links within the city, captures the vast territory of the Kazan agglomeration, taking into account all the regularities of the distribution of transport and passenger flows, - said Sergey Blakitny, head of the transport planning group SIMETRA. - We also conducted training and briefing of the customer's specialists, now they will be able to work with the model in the digital RITM³ platform.

The transport model is developed on Western software, and has already been imported into Russian RITM³ software, including all data and algorithms.

Also, SIMETRA Group of Companies has equipped the MBU DBD with the initial version of the domestic digital platform RITM³ for modeling traffic flows in the city, region, country. This will help the institution take the first step in mastering the platform and start working with the transport model of the Kazan agglomeration: study its content in detail, analyze the calculated data, present various indicators in the form of cartograms, tables, graphs and matrices.

2022: Development of the transport model of the Kazan urban agglomeration

On January 25, 2023, SIMETRA, a competence center in the field of transport planning, announced that it would develop a transport model for the Kazan city agglomeration, which includes the republican center itself and 6 adjacent districts. The model is a working tool aimed at calculating various options for the development of the agglomeration transport system for the period up to 2040.

The work will be completed in three stages until mid-autumn 2023. As part of the first stage, experts will conduct field measurements, a sociological survey, surveys of passenger flows, accumulate and analyze the initial data, which will then form the basis of calculations. About three thousand respondents will take part in the survey, experts will analyze the work of almost 200 routes. The transport model will make it possible to predict the transport situation, develop recommendations and think over the necessary measures,
said Vladimir Shvetsov, CEO of SIMETRA.

As part of the creation of the transport model, an assessment of the quantity, quality and mobility of the transport composition, the intensity and speed of movement of different types of transport will be carried out. Specialists will also assess the volumes of transport and passenger flows and patterns of people's behavior, taking into account their travel goals. In the course of the work, the street and road network, the organization of traffic and the entire network of routes for regular transportation of the agglomeration will be digitized, an analysis of the socio-economic statistics of the region will be carried out both for the current situation and for all planning horizons.

Kazan In earned its own laboratory on intelligent transport systems the basis. Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N. Tupolev This project appeared with the support of SIMETRA and allows you to develop the competencies of young transport engineers and adopt the experience of senior colleagues. The creation of a transport model of the Kazan agglomeration is an important step to improve transport planning and modeling in the republic,

In addition to directly developing the model, SIMETRA will conduct training and briefing of the customer's specialists. The company's specialists participated in the creation of large transport models of Russian and foreign cities and regions, including Moscow, Tashkent, Samarkand, Rostovskaya and other regions.
