2021: Installation of MGI JETvarnish 3D EVO

In July 2021, specialists from the Russian representative office Konica Minolta launched the MGI JETvarnish 3D EVO jet machine at the FineArtPrint Group of Companies in Moscow, designed for digital rework of printed materials. This was announced by Konica Minolta on August 4, 2021.

The group FineArtPrint implements three projects: FineArtBox (premium packaging), Couture Book (service for professional photographers, designers, architects and those who value visual aesthetics) and MyPhotoPages (photo service for the whole family). One of the key areas of the Group of Companies is cardboard packaging. FineArtPrint produces it both independently on existing digital machines, and placing orders for printing the liner with contractors with offset equipment. To finish this product in the summer of 2020, the group acquired a JETvarnish 3DS jet machine with a foil embossing module iFoil S. A year later, according to plans, it replaced the equipment with a more productive model JETvarnish 3D EVO.

When buying the first MGI car, we wanted to "try" the market and understand whether we can rock it to ensure the required load, "comments Dmitry Stepanov, head of the FineArtPrint Group of Companies. - After a year of work it became obvious that we succeeded. In a month we varnish and foil up to 200 thousand sheets and see that the format and performance of the old machine no longer meets our current needs. Therefore, we gave it to the supplier and delivered a more powerful one - we initially had such an agreement, and we simply fulfilled it.

The jet machine JETvarnish 3D EVO was developed by the company MGI specifically for manufacturers of cardboard packaging. In the basic configuration, the machine allows you to work with sheets of up to 52x120 cm format, but by adding jet heads and an upgrade ON it can be increased to 75x120 cm. The list of materials is very wide. In particular, it includes paper, cardboard, plastic, laminated products with a density of 135 to 800 g/m2. Pallet is used to supply materials and lay out finished products.

JETvarnish 3D EVO uses universal varnish, which is suitable not only for ordinary, "flat" varnishing, but also for 3D varnishing, creating textures with a lacquer layer thickness of up to 232 microns. The iFoil L module provides hot foil embossing, and its combination with varnish allows giving many visual and tactile effects to the finished product. Exact combination of varnish and foil with the printed image automatically is provided with the SmartScanner AIS scanner. The maximum speed of the machine is 3123 B2/h (2300 with foil).

As of August 2021, about 90% of products ennobled with MGI are cardboard packaging, says Dmitry Stepanov. - both digital and offset, having large circulations. Customers are actively interested in different types of varnishing and embossing with foil, as well as the ability to divide the circulation into several parts and make each of them with their own trim option - this helps them stand out on the market and increase sales. MGI equipment using inkjet technology for varnishing and digital foil embossing allows us to fully satisfy such requests.

{{quote 'The pandemic showed the entire printing market which directions remained at the same level of popularity and even grew, "comments Maxim Ignatenko, head of the industrial and production printing department of Konica Minolta Business Solutions Russia. - To develop the production of premium packaging, the company FineArtPrint relied on Konica Minolta and MGI technology, installing at the beginning of the pandemic the junior model MGI Jet Varnish 3DS format B3. It was important for the client to understand whether it would help attract new customers, as well as how stable the business as a whole would work. After only 14 months, he found other growth points in the premium packaging market and, having mastered the technology, saw opportunities for further development, for which he needed a more productive machine of a larger format. }}

2020: Implementation of MGI JETvarnish 3DS with foil embossing module iFoil S

On June 5, 2020, it became known that in the spring of 2020, Konica Minolta Business Solutions Russia specialists started Moscow printing houses FineArtPrint inkjet system in ledger digital embellishment of printed materials JETvarnish 3DS with foil embossing module iFoil S manufactured by French company MGI.

The jet technology used in the MGI solution allows you to obtain interesting visual and tactile effects that are difficult or impossible to obtain on traditional equipment. For example, it is possible to obtain a real "mirror" by combining varnish and foil, and it is possible to distinguish individual elements of the image with varnish on one sheet, and vary its thickness for each element. And all this with accurate readings with a printed image. On traditional equipment, this is either impossible, or very difficult, long and expensive - we have it, and this conclusion is made on the basis of numerous tests that we ourselves carried out.

The choice in favor of MGI was made after analyzing the solutions presented on the market, including visiting the factories of manufacturers and conducting test printing.

JETvarnish 3DS is designed to ennoble digital or offset prints with a format of up to 36.4 x 102 cm and a density of 135-450 g/m2. The machine operation speed is up to 2077 A3/h, the maximum possible varnishing thickness is 232 μm.

Firstly, we have a diversified business, and if the commercial press fell by 90% by 2019, then photobooks, cardboard packaging and our own projects have shown even growth somewhere. And secondly, this is not the first complex of this type installed in Moscow. I pay tribute to the pioneers who have warmed up the market well and advanced digital varnishing and folding technology into the masses. For June 2020, we are actively involved in this process, but in a slightly different segment.
