Rostec begins creation of infrastructure for mail delivery with drones

In the middle of February, 2020 it became known that Rostec begins creation of infrastructure for mail delivery with drones. The Ural Civil Aviation Works (UCAW) entering an aviation cluster of state corporation will start the corresponding commercial project together with Russian Post.

According to RBC with reference to the project presentation, its purpose is construction of infrastructure for a civil industry of pilotless aircraft, like network of regional airfields.  Initiators of the project emphasized that they see market development of civil pilotless aviation at simultaneous revival of network of local airfields which in the past serviced small aircraft.

The first stage the project is planned for June, 2020, and during the 2022nd piloting of mail UAVs which by February of the 2020th are already tested will take place.

It is about devices of plane type which are adapted for mail transportations and monitoring of the area using the photo and video equipment.  Drones are capable to gather speed to 150 km/h, to lift loads weighing up to 20 kg and to fly by without recharge up to 1200 km or about eight hours.

At the first stage six UAVs will move sendings between the Ural logistic centers on the airports of Yekaterinburg, Serova and Nizhny Tagil. Will develop the scheme of regular flights at which at the same time in the sky there will be able to be only four drones for them. During tests will fulfill interaction of drones among themselves, abnormal scenarios of flight and work of an escape parachute system.

The total cost of the project is 750 million rubles. At a stage of research works UZGA applies for 69% of participation of budgetary funds and 31% own. By February 17, 2020 negotiations on participation in the project are conducted with Russian Post and VSK Insurance House. According to the representative of UZGA, preliminary approval from Russian Post is already got.[1]
