2022: The start of the creation of an intelligent transport system
On June 9, 2022, the Urbantech Group of Companies announced that it was starting the first stage of creating an intelligent transport system in the Nizhny Novgorod urban agglomeration. As a result of the implementation of the comprehensive project, the regional authorities are aimed at reducing the number of accidents, increasing the capacity of roads, increasing the level of road safety for motorists and pedestrians, as well as the quality of service for public transport passengers.
The creation of a unified platform for managing transport systems EPUTS is the first stage of ITS implementation. The platform will combine five information systems existing in the city: RNIS, automated dispatch control systems for public transport and informing passengers about OT, AIC "Safe City" and GIS "Title-2005." 20 additional modules and subsystems created within the project will also be connected. The system will ensure the interconnected functioning of all ITS subsystems and services to increase the throughput of the transport network and the safety of traffic participants.
The functionality of the system will provide priority travel for special vehicles, configure directive control of traffic lights, provide access to a video surveillance system to identify and predict accidents, emergencies, etc. The project also includes control modules for road traffic, public transport, modules for road management and dispatch management of IT for emergencies and aircraft, as well as a geo-information system for collecting, storing, analyzing and graphically visualizing data.
As part of the introduction of an intelligent transport system, the throughput of the road network may increase by up to 20%. These indicators are planned to be achieved through the use of video detectors installed together with traffic lights. They will assess the intensity of the traffic flow, and, based on this, the operation of traffic lights will be automatically adjusted. Also, cameras can identify vehicles to give priority to public transport, - said Artem Bafanov, director of the State Public Institution NO "Center for the Development of Transport Systems." |
As a result of the introduction of the EPUTS "Center for the Development of Transport Systems" of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, it will be possible to monitor the current state of the transport system online, adjust the operation of ITS subsystems, promptly respond to incidents on the road network and manage traffic "at the moment."
The creation of a single platform for managing the transport system is the beginning of the transformation of the transport infrastructure of the Nizhny Novgorod urban agglomeration. As our experience in introducing such solutions in the Moscow region shows, the environment for motorists and pedestrians is changing qualitatively: the number of accidents decreases by 17% and up to 20%, depending on the conditions of urban development, the time that people spend in traffic jams is reduced, ˗ said Daniil Khazov, commercial director of the Group of Companies "Urbantech." |
By April 2023, the platform will be fully deployed and will cover all ITS peripheral equipment, which will be connected in the city in the future. As a result of the comprehensive project for the implementation of EPUTS and subsequent projects for the development of ITS, the intellectual transport system of the Nizhny Novgorod urban agglomeration will reach the second level of digital maturity according to the method Ministry of Transport Russia and will become the basis for the transition to the third level of maturity.
