2017: FineReader's biggest update in 10 years

Initially, products were released separately, because different target audiences were bored with different scenarios. And now the markets for solutions for text recognition and working with PDF are actually merging into a single one. The medical text recognition system is based on probabilistic graphics models (PGM), Bayesian networks (BN) and hidden Markov models (HMM). ABBYY FineReader recognizes physician handwriting in large blocks. In the most complex cases, the program treats entire lines as one recognition object, turning the image into a graph of probability states, from which meaningful text then crystallizes.

When creating the MedText module, ABBYY first applied a new development - the Method of detecting internal writing logic. With it, you can determine which of the curls in the line correspond to the real letters, and which were added by the doctor for beauty.

The system for decoding medical abbreviations, implemented in the updated product, provides not only the translation of the recipe into readable text, but explains to the user what the medical professional meant.

• Save original artwork to Microsoft® Word, PDF, OpenOffice.org® Writer, and DjVu. Thanks to the improved Adaptive Document Recognition Technology (ADRT®), the new version of the program more accurately recreates the original structure of a multi-page document, including a table of contents, headers and footers, and other elements. Improved definition of vertical headers and footers (up to 70% more accurate results), margin text, charts, tables, and styles, reducing the time required to manually adjust a document. The program has improved the ability to save recognition results in OpenOffice format and added support for recording recognition results in DjVu format, which is often used when archiving documents, when it is necessary to preserve all the nuances of design (for example, when working with historical documents). When you save the text to an ODT file, the ABBYY FineReader 11 now more accurately recreate the headers and footers, page numbering, and table of contents. • Splits the scanned page stream into separate documents.
