2019: Announcement

At the end of October, 2019 Microsoft released the video, showing as these walks with adding of virtual reality could look. For this purpose the user will need only an experimental system which integrates virtual reality with an open physical medium - DreamWalker ("Sleepwalker").

Thanks to the DreamWalker system the user is not tied to one location. A system consists of the computer backpack HP Omen, VR- Samsung Odyssey glasses, the controller Windows Mixed Reality, depth sensors Intel Realsense, Xiaomi Mi 8 smartphone for determination GPS- coordinates and an add-on accumulator unit. Having assembled completely all equipment, the user can safely explore the virtual world, walking on real.

Eight testers checked a prototype, walking with it within 15 minutes on a campus of Microsoft whereas a system unrolled before them one of three environments of virtual reality: New York, beach and boundary city. For the purpose of security a system constantly determines provision of the user and others in space by a set of sensors.

Every Wednesday uses different visual hints that users bypassed obstacles - for example, selecting them with obstacles or road cones. Besides, a system uses yellow markers and arrows for designation of safe routes, allowing users to enjoy experience of virtual reality.

So far it is improbable that a new system will attract serious interest of most of users of headsets of virtual reality. But Microsoft considers that using DreamWalker they investigate "the future in which people spend much more time in virtual reality, even at those moments when they move in the real world".[1]
