2023: Digitization of manuscript and censorship copies of Ostrovsky's plays

ELAR on July 12, 2023 announced that it had digitized handwritten and censored copies of plays by playwright Alexander Nikolaevich Ostrovsky from the Russian Drama collection of the St. Petersburg State Theater Library.

The creation of electronic copies of the playwright's plays took place as part of the next stage of digitization of the library's book funds. Manuscript and censorship copies of the playwright's plays and his plays published in the 20s and 30s of the twentieth century are translated into figures. The first plays are of particular value - book monuments, the library notes. The array of documents - 23,000 storage units, are of great importance for domestic culture and are carefully preserved for future generations of theater researchers. "The project is designed for several years, to date, more than 900 book monuments have been digitized," said Anastasia Grigorievna Gai, director of the library. - In the current 2023, about 200 more copies will be digitized. As of July 2023, the work is in an active phase. Electronic copies of book monuments are already available to our readers.
