Map of the Russian IT market 2024

The TAdviser analytical center has released a new infographic "Map of the Russian Information Technology Market," on which it noted the key Russian vendors and integrators of software and hardware solutions.

The new IT card includes over 380 of the largest and most visible Russian IT companies. They are divided into four main segments: software and hardware, IT services and information security.

The situation on the Russian IT market in recent years has changed as much as it did not change decades before. Domestic developers came to the fore, new suppliers of IT services and services arose, Russian vendors of information security products strengthened. The market map will help you navigate this new reality, "said Alexander Levashov, editor-in-chief of TAdviser.

When preparing the map, analysts relied on:

  • TAdviser Knowledge Base
  • TAdviser ratings and reviews
  • IT Sites
  • State information resource of accounting (financial) statements

At the request of TAdviser, experts from Lanit, T1, K2Tekh and C3 Solutions shared their views on how the Russian IT market is changing and what its prospects are.

On key changes in the Russian IT market in 2023

Vladimir Vertogradov, Vice President of LANIT, Managing Director of NORBIT:

In 2023, turbulence gave way to a certain stability. Plans for pilots and migrations, which the business built throughout 2022, entered the stage of implementation. The need for both IT and management consulting has seriously increased.

The massive transition to domestic solutions (according to a study by the Institute for the Study of International Markets (IIMR), 98% of Russian companies already use them), highlighted the existing problems and fierce the "intraspecific" competition. The issue of the maturity of Russian products, as well as integration with each other in the general circuit, is quite acute. All this requires additional investment in refinement and teams of specialists in order to quickly compensate for the shortcomings of functionality.

Clients focused on BPM and low-code platforms, since they can provide not only fast adaptability and time-to-market reduction, but also the manageability necessary for efficient operation, and the implementation of an end-to-end process connecting key enterprise systems (SRM, ERP, CRM).

Another area of increased attention is development in the field of AI, including various analogues of ChatGPT. Here, in addition to technological ones, problems of ethical and legal order began to manifest themselves (a lawsuit against Microsoft and OpenAI with allegations of copyright infringement in model training), the solution of which, obviously, will be the task of the next few years. Innovations often try to compensate for the shortage of workers. With a growing shortage of personnel in all directions, this trend is definitely with us for a long time.

Kirill Bulgakov, Deputy General Director of T1 Holding, Managing Director of NOTA Vendor:

The key result is that the first results of work in the field of ensuring technological independence have already appeared. It was announced that the largest customers (banks, industry, companies with state participation) will launch a number of projects in the product. In most classes of software there are competing products of domestic manufacturers (on average, at least three, in a number of classes - from five to ten or even more) - a sign of healthy competition in the developing market.

Igor Zeldets, Deputy General Director for Business Development, K2Tekh:

In 2023, Russian business, left without the support of foreign vendors, began to actively switch to Russian solutions. According to a study by K2Tekh, last year 68% of Russian companies implemented import substitution projects. The most dynamic migration to domestic IT products was in terms of infrastructure solutions, corporate information systems, as well as information security (information security), since there were already reliable and competitive developments in these areas on the Russian market. In addition to the corporate circuit, the companies were engaged in the digitalization of industrial processes and introduced Russian MES systems, analytical platforms and various digital services based on AI and ML.

Daria Aleksankina, CEO of C3 Solutions:

I can say with confidence that over the past year we have begun to live in completely new technological realities. Now it is much more difficult to get free access to technology. Most of the resources for the production of IT equipment have increased significantly in price, while the timing of their receipt has increased. For example, banal chips, which are the basis of all electronic devices, are mainly brought from China.

These factors gave a strong motivating impetus to the development of domestic decisions. Now more and more Russian manufacturers of new directions appear on the market. These include switches, storage systems (DSS), and passive data center solutions.

All these changes, of course, should favorably affect the development of the domestic IT industry, including in the long term.

About expectations and forecasts for the development of the Russian IT market in 2024-2025

Igor Zeldets, Deputy General Director for Business Development, K2Tekh:

In the current and next years, the focus on maintaining business continuity will remain. Russian IT solutions will continue to be implemented to minimize risks and scale the IT infrastructure. To increase the efficiency of production processes in industry, fault tolerance of production equipment, the demand for MES systems, digital twins, predictive analytics will grow. Corporate information systems, including BI, ERP and others, will be increasingly integrated.

We see the development of an open APCS as a promising direction, since there is no full-fledged replacement for Western solutions yet, and the demand for APCS from large industrial companies will grow. The new architecture will help attract new developers to this niche.

Vladimir Vertogradov, Vice President of LANIT, Managing Director of NORBIT:

The market will grow at an average annual rate of 12%. According to experts, by 2025 it will reach 4 trillion rubles. There is also an obvious shift in demand from system integration to the development of specialized platforms. It is especially noticeable among large companies: they are looking for solutions that take into account their specific requirements as much as possible, which are suitable for tasks and processes. Significant advantages of "narrow" solutions are their greater adaptability to changes in the business environment, better optimization of processes in specific directions, the possibility of point, more concentrated application of innovations, including AI, machine learning and RPA.

In the coming years, we will see the rise of diverse IT alliances and strategic alliances. On the one hand, for large companies it is an opportunity to develop expertise in the necessary areas of digitalization, strengthen it through the concentration of experts, and collect strong teams that will help improve the supply of products and services. On the other hand, this is a direct path to expanding the audience, new customers, the development of additional sales channels. And, of course, to the growth of competitiveness.

New projects from the real sector of the economy - industry, fuel and energy complex, construction - will be added to the already familiar projects for finance, which in general were locomotives of digitalization in the market. The technology stack will also expand significantly. This is due to the complication of IT landscapes, migration to domestic software.

Daria Aleksankina, CEO of C3 Solutions:

I will assume that in the next two years, domestic producers will prioritize the development of new directions. This includes intelligent data transfer, storage, and security solutions and distributed computing products. For example, for such purposes, the C3 Solutions portfolio already presents intelligent power distribution units based on the Russian Baikal processor and the integrated EDGE solution of the MicroData Center.

As for data centers, the rapid development of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT and IIoT) will entail the need for an increase in capacities and resources for information processing and storage. Accordingly, we can expect an increase in needs for infrastructure and engineering solutions.

It can also be stated that the increasing attention of the IT market is riveted by the issue of physical and especially energy security of IT facilities. Here we should expect in the medium term a request to transform the solutions on the market from conservative forms into more elegant intelligent products that are convenient to control, manage and simulate various scenarios with them, thereby supporting the trend towards digital counterparts of enterprises and business processes.

Another area of development of the Russian IT market can be considered the introduction of products for GPU computing. They are designed to analyze a large amount of heterogeneous data. The application of this technology in itself is a separate and large topic for discussion. Nevertheless, domestic manufacturers are already confidently going in this direction and are making progress. Let's see what awaits us in the near future.

Kirill Bulgakov, Deputy General Director of T1 Holding, Managing Director of NOTA Vendor:

In the future of 3-5 years, a trend for competitive mergers and acquisitions will also appear, which is a sign of further development. As expected, we will see more specific results of the regulatory impact in terms of import substitution not only of the public sector and KII operator companies, but also of commercial players in a number of industries.

Along with "traditional" systems - systems of the enterprise resource management class, personnel and financial accounting, customer relations management - the focus will be on the industrial use of domestic engineering systems and platforms that provide a complete software development cycle.
