2024: Moscow allocated 4.4 hectares for the construction of two data centers for 100 MW and 350 jobs
At the end of July 2024, it became known that Moscow allocated a 4.4 hectare land plot to the investor on Saltykovskaya Street for the construction of a complex with a total area of about 100 thousand square meters. m, which will house two data centers with a total capacity of 100 MW. The implementation of this project will create more than 350 jobs for Russian IT specialists, said Vladimir Efimov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Planning Policy and Construction.
The city provided a land plot as part of a large-scale investment project. Such status can be obtained by production complexes, innovation centers, social institutions, transport, sports and other facilities. For their construction, the capital provides land plots for rent without bidding for a period of 5 years. According to the Minister of the Government of Moscow, the head of the Moscow Department of City Property Maxim Gaman, the lease agreement for the implementation of a large-scale investment project was concluded for 5 years.
The data center project is aimed at strengthening the infrastructure and ensuring reliable and secure storage of data that meets all the requirements of critical infrastructure. The new centers will meet the highest TIER-IV Uptime Institute reliability standards. They will be equipped with advanced technologies that provide high performance, scalability and energy efficiency. As added in the mayor's office of the capital, the implementation of such projects allows you to develop modern infrastructure in the city and create jobs.
In Moscow, the trend of recent years to create high-tech enterprises remains. The city supports such projects and provides land for their implementation, - said Vladimir Efimov.[1] |

Prices for data center services in Moscow increased by only 2% to 107.4 thousand rubles
At the end of 2023, prices for data placement and rack rental services in commercial data centers in Moscow and St. Petersburg increased by 2% (to 107.4 thousand rubles) and 13% (84.1 thousand rubles), respectively, compared to a year ago. This is stated in a study by 3data and IKS-Consulting. Excerpts from the report were published in mid-January 2024.
As explained to Kommersant in 3data, significantly more server racks were commissioned in Moscow in 2023 than in St. Petersburg: about 9 thousand against 400. At the same time, there is a shortage of supply in both regions.
Moscow and St. Petersburg are still the main locations of the data center, but we are seeing an increase in demand in other regions, "said the representative of 3data, whose words are quoted by the newspaper. |
Rostelecom DPC believes that the demand for data placement and rack rental services in commercial data centers in 2024 will continue to outstrip supply: consumers either finally refuse to independently build their data centers or postpone it.
It will be more difficult for companies to compete in the efficiency of infrastructure ownership with large data center operators because of their cost, "warned the company's technical director Alexei Zabrodin (quoted by Kommersant). |
At the same time, the general director of Uralenergotel Alexei Belsky (the company is building data centers to order), on the contrary, believes that customers who need data centers are aimed more at creating their own IT infrastructure, and not at using external data centers.
These are large costs, but at the same time the potential for demand for 10-15 years is laid, he believes. We are talking about industrial enterprises, banks, technology companies, etc.[2] |

The interlocutor of the newspaper on the market connects the duplication and redundancy of critical data and information systems by companies in the Urals and Siberia with drone attacks on Moscow and the Moscow region and the "unstable political situation."
Now customers are increasingly interested in deploying solutions at remote sites so that "in the event of physical attacks, the second backup object will not suffer," said Dmitry Prede, a representative of the 3data data center network.
