The largest dating sites in Russia have sharply reduced audience - Mediascope
The audience of leading Russian dating sites, including such popular platforms as Friend Around and Photostrana, decreased significantly in 2024. This became known at the end of January 2025 from Mediascope materials. According to analysts, the decline in coverage was recorded in almost all major services, with the exception of individual new players.
According to Vedomosti, the active audience of the Friend Around platform decreased by 14.2% and amounted to 2.02 million users over 18 years old in December 2024. Photostrana lost 17% of its monthly audience, and by December 2024 only 1.15 million people had registered on the site. An even more noticeable decline was recorded in the Beboo service - the decline was 21.4%, which led to 687 thousand active users. The Tabor platform also reduced the number of visitors - the audience decreased from 1.56 million to 1.45 million people, which is equivalent to 7% decline.
Despite the general decline, individual platforms showed positive dynamics. According to Mediascope, Mamba's audience increased from 1.82 million to 1.89 million active users, and Loveplanet from 748 thousand to 793 thousand users.
The service Tinder finally lost the Russian market, leaving the country in June 2023. As specified in Mediascope, the audience of the service has decreased to a level that does not allow data validation. In 2024, only 95 thousand people used the platform, most of whom used workarounds for access.
One of the most successful newcomers was the Twinby service, which increased the number of downloads from 1.3 million to 3.3 million over the year. According to Sergey Vilyanov, an analyst at Fintech Lab accelerator, Twinby attracted a young audience from 18 years old due to its focus on the current needs of this age group. In addition, at the end of December 2024, the service was able to attract ₽500 million for business development, which, according to the expert, indicates a successful adaptation to market requirements.
The VK Dating service showed impressive growth. According to Sensor Tower, the monthly active audience of the application increased by 148% - from 395 thousand to 978 thousand users. The number of downloads of the service increased by 357%, reaching 4.4 million by December 2024.[1]

The study notes a significant decrease in the share of the previously popular Tinder service, which left the Russian market. Its audience shrank from 26% in 2022 to 1% by the end of 2024. In 2024, the number of Russian Tinder users decreased by 74.7%.
Analysis of demographics showed that the main users of dating services are people aged 35 to 44, making up 32% of the total number of users. Gender distribution shows a predominance of male audience - 55% versus 45% female.
There is a certain specialization among various platforms: Loveplanet's service is more popular with male audiences, while Mamba attracts more female users. Geographically, the largest concentration of users is observed in the Moscow region - 16% of the total.
An important factor in the development of the market was the emergence of new domestic services, such as VK Dating, which quickly gained popularity among users and took a significant share of the market, contributing to its further development.
According to the results of the study, it can be concluded that the Russian market for dating applications has successfully adapted to the changes that occurred after the departure of international services. Domestic developers were able to offer users alternative solutions that took up their vacated positions.[2]

In terms of the number of unique visitors, the Mamba application leads, the audience of which grew by 12% over the year. It was followed by Tabor, with gains of 25%, and Nekto, which posted impressive gains of 150%.
According to Mamba CEO Andrei Bronetsky, after the departure of Tinder, the volume of payments in the segment decreased sharply - by about 40%. In 2024, 96% of Russians use dating services for free without purchasing additional options.
Megafon experts attribute the decrease in the solvency of users to the introduction of sanctions that have limited the possibility of direct payments through the AppStore when making internal purchases. This especially affected the owners of Apple devices, traditionally considered the most solvent audience.
According to the Internet portal Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Tinder, which occupied about a quarter of the total audience of the online dating market in Russia, completely stopped working in the country on June 30, 2023. Dating apps use several monetization models: paid subscription, freemium, advertising and premium accounts. Freemium allows users to use basic features for free, but there is a fee for access to additional options. Paid subscriptions and premium accounts give access to advanced features that are not available in the free version. All these areas are actively developing in the Russian segment of services, which contributes to their further growth.
According to the general director of the dating service Twinby Veronika Yakovleva, launched in 2023, the recovery of the market is not as fast as we would like. This is due to the fact that the services have not yet filled the niche left by international players, and their premium functionality has not yet been developed enough. However, the interest of the female audience and the younger generation in online dating continues to grow, which has a positive effect on the market dynamics.[5]

In addition, AI allows you to filter profiles based on the preferences of a particular user. Neural networks also help those who are desperate to find a partner: such people can correspond with a virtual girl or man. Such tools help to survive the loss of a loved one, as well as provide support in difficult situations.
On the other hand, as noted, a "relationship" with a chatbot can prevent a person from seeking love in the real world, trapping him in loneliness. "Having created for himself an understanding and absolutely agreeable digital lover, a person will begin to present inflated requirements for real candidates," the study says.[7]
