2025:30% of studio staff laid off due to failed projects

In mid-June 2025, it became known that the American studio for the development of popular video games Bend Studio was forced to reduce the number of personnel. One of the reasons for the reorganization is the cancellation of a number of failed projects.

Bend Studio is part of PlayStation Studios, which in turn is owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Notable Bend Studio projects include Syphon Filter, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Uncharted: Fight for Fortune and others. The studio's last created game was the open-world action game Days Gone for Playstation 4, which was released in 2019. The game was Bend Studio's first major console project since 2004.

Sony fires 30% of studio staff to develop popular video games due to failed projects

According to Bloomberg News, as part of the restructuring, Bend Studio has cut about 40 employees, or about 30% of the state. This happened after the cancellation of some unannounced project, which was supposed to be a service game. At the same time, it is known that the studio will switch attention to another project, the details of which are not disclosed.

Earlier, Bend Studio completed the development of the concept of a "live" service. After a thorough analysis of the project prospects, we decided not to continue its development. As the team shifts attention to a new direction, we have made strategic changes to the organizational structure in order to ensure long-term success. As part of this transition, the studio saw a shrinking workforce. This is a difficult decision and we are extremely grateful to all those affected by the changes, "Bend Studio said in a statement.
