2026: Approval of the composition by the Chairman of the Government of Russia Mikhail Mishustin

In March 2026, the Russian government decided to create a subcommittee on the development and implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The new body will focus on promptly resolving issues arising from the integration of AI into various industries, as well as on coordinating the activities of departments in this area.

Deputy Prime Minister - Chief of Staff of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Grigorenko has been appointed head of the subcommittee. According to the office of the Deputy Prime Minister, the formation of this body completes the creation of a single three-level system of interaction between the authorities on the development of artificial intelligence.

Also, the collegial body included the Governor of the Moscow Region Andrei Vorobyov, representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Defense, the FSB and the Moscow government.

The functions of the new structure are mainly applied: the subcommittee will work as an internal government headquarters. Its tasks include the introduction of artificial intelligence technologies in the economy, social sphere and public administration, coordination of the work of departments, as well as the determination of priority areas for the introduction of developments.

In parallel, similar interdepartmental headquarters are being created at the regional level. The task of regional structures will be to coordinate the implementation of AI on the ground, collect proposals and their subsequent sending to the federal level for consideration.[1]
