2022: Company Launch

On May 19, 2022, it became known that the Yadro group had created a new company - Kernel Center for Mobile Communications Technologies LLC. She will develop and produce equipment for LTE and 5G communication networks.

As the general director of Yadro Alexei Shelobkov told Kommersant, at the first stage about 5-7 billion rubles will be invested in the new business. The enterprise will be launched in Dubna. According to Shelobkov, by mid-May 2022, the company is recruiting a team of engineers.

The previously existing problem with a shortage of qualified specialists in this area is resolved by attracting talents from the R&D centers of Western vendors closing their activities in the Russian Federation, including Nokia and Intel, he said.

Shelobkov stressed that the company fully meets the deadlines for the construction and launch of a full-cycle plant in Dubna, where, among other things, network equipment will be produced.

The Ministry of Digital Development in a conversation with the publication noted that they welcome the Yadro project. As the department emphasized, the transition to domestic LTE stations can be implemented by local forces and back in 2021, the ministry extended frequency permits for mobile operators, provided that they switch to Russian equipment. However, at that time the calculations were carried out in other conditions - it was believed that this would contribute to the localization of the production of Nokia, Ericsson and Huawei in Russia.

However, according to Dmitry Lakontsev, head of the NTI competence center based on Skoltech, even refusal to cooperate from the largest vendors will not prevent Russia from creating its own solutions, the country "is already developing at least three hardware and software solutions for LTE networks, one of them in Skoltech," although they do not yet meet the requirements of operators[1]
