2022: Olympus bought the company
On December 20, 2022, Olympus announced the purchase of Odin Vision, a developer of cloud endoscopy technology with artificial intelligence. The total amount of the transaction is $79 million in the form of advance and phased payments.
London-based Odin Vision develops automated detection/diagnostics (CAD) solutions. The company is also developing cloud-enabled applications.
Clinicians and AI experts from the Wellcome/EPSRC Center for Interventional and Surgical Sciences (WEISS) at University College London ( UCL) founded Odin Vision. The developers created it with the aim of offering digital technologies for a "new era" in healthcare, helping doctors provide better care. The company aims to improve patient outcomes and experience while increasing value for healthcare providers.
Olympus said in a press release that Odin Vision is designed to "create a paradigm shift" in the integration of AI into endoscopy. The company aims to support procedures including colonoscopy and esophagogastroduodenoscopy with its cloud AI platform.
Incorporating Odin Vision's leading portfolio of AI technologies and innovative capabilities into Olympus' broader digital roadmap will create synergies that enable us to commercialize highly valuable endoscopy-focused software tools! Their product portfolio fits perfectly into our broader efforts to expand the opportunities we provide to support physicians and help healthcare teams leverage data to facilitate decision-making, said Olympus Chief Operating Officer Nacho Abia. |
The acquisition is a strategic component of Olympus' broader goal of transforming clinical and procedural workflows. The company aims to use the data to provide digital solutions that reduce the administrative burden and help make decisions during the health care delivery phase. According to Olympus management, this allows medical professionals to provide the best possible medical care.
Odin Vision technology complements Olympus' Digital Endosuite concept. It provides for the use of AI and other digital technologies that expand the possibilities of endotherapy. Olympus said that with the help of this platform, the company intends to "lead the future of digital healthcare." She wants to offer a number of cloud-connected software solutions created by herself and third-party development partners.[1]
