Attraction of 70 million euros of investments from Porsche
In mid-March 2021, Porsche announced that it had invested in the Croatian electric car manufacturer Rimac. Thanks to the latest investments in the amount of 70 million euros, Porsche's share in the company reached 24%.
The Croatian company Rimac develops and manufactures high-tech components for electric vehicles, including high-performance drives and battery systems. Rimac also produces electric powered supercars. Porsche joined the company as an investor in 2018, and since then they have been working together on electric vehicles for the German brand. In September 2019, Porsche increased its share to 15%. The recent increase in capital shows an increase in strategic partnerships.
Mate Rimak and his team are important partners of Porsche. Rimac intends to become a first-level supplier to Porsche and other manufacturers in the high-tech segment. Porsche has already placed Rimac's first orders for the development of highly innovative serial components, "said Lutz Meschke, deputy chairman of the board and member of the board for finance and information technology at Porsche AG. He also stressed that both companies will benefit from such cooperation in the future. |
Mate Rimac, CEO and founder of Rimac, added that the partnership with Porsche helps the company develop and grow, which means it benefits all customers. However, "it is important for both Rimac and Porsche that we remain a fully independent business."
The companies do not comment on how their cooperation is progressing, but it is expected that the electric Porsche Macan will be the first Porsche-branded car to receive some technology from Rimac.[1]
