History

2023: Allocation of 5 billion rubles of budget funds for the renovation of the center

The Cosmonaut Training Center (CPC) named after Yu. A. Gagarin will receive 5 billion rubles for renovation. The corresponding amendments to the second reading of the budget were made by a group of deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation in November 2023.

It is assumed that these funds will be provided over the next three years: on them, in particular, it is planned to build a new fitness center and reconstruct most of the buildings of the CPC complex. According to a Vedomosti source close to Roscosmos, the amount of funds that will be allocated to the CPC within three years is not a very large amount: it is much less than the cost of a modern geostationary communications satellite.

The authors of the amendments were such Russian parliamentarians as the first female cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, his first deputy Alexander Zhukov, head of the United Russia faction Vladimir Vasiliev, head of the budget and tax committee Andrei Makarov and first deputy chairman of the economic policy committee Denis Kravchenko, who previously served as first deputy general director of the United Rocket and Space Corporation, write Vedomosti.

A number of objects at its [Yu. A. Gagarin CPC] territory have not been repaired for about 40 years, and space exploration is the most important tool for the technological development of our country, "said Volodin, who personally visited the CPC in Zvezdny Gorodok at the end of August 2023: there was a visiting meeting of the Council of the Lower House of Parliament.

According to Denis Kravchenko, not a single new building has been built on the territory of the CPC since the 1980s, in some places there have been only cosmetic repairs. Andrei Frolov, an expert at the Center for Comprehensive European and World Studies at the Higher School of Economics, expressed the opinion that maintaining the CPC in a normal state is also necessary to maintain unique Russian competencies in the field of manned cosmonautics.[1]
