Hewlett-Packard and Sybase started the designer of BI systems whose implementation even on large enterprise will take no more than one day. Clients should treat seriously a stage of settings, but afterwards ownership of the solution will cost them a minimum twice cheaper of the analogs presented at the market, promise vendors.
In hope to seriously undermine price offers of other BI vendors, HP and Sybase issued the new platform based on which corporate clients will be able independently to collect the BI solutions suitable them by the principle of the designer. As envisioned by vendors, creation of such customized system will cost to the companies much more cheaper, than implementation of a shrink-wrapped software product.
"We see what difficulties our clients with implementation of BI solutions meet", - Dan Lahl, the director of Sybase of product marketing commented on an initiative. According to him, previously "packed" BI-applications, like those that develop Netezza, Oracle and Teradata already stirred interest of the market in such systems. New approach will demand from business of great efforts on setup of a system, however, significantly will cut down expenses on its development and deployment, he said.
The ready architecture developed and tested by engineers of HP and Sybase consists of directly BI software from Sybase, the SAP Sybase IQ system of version 15.1 delivered complete with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3, the server system of HP ProLiant DL785 and storage system of HP StorageWorks. "Clients can purchase all these components, and they will work with guarantee together", - Lal noted.
The architecture will be delivered in two configurations. For system deployment of average scale, on 24 server cores and the 14th terabyte of storage and also large scale – on 48 cores and the 28th terabyte. "Both are focused on the requirements of the companies having data bulks", - Lal explained.
The companies did not provide comparative data on cost of the competing systems, however, already counted that ownership of an average configuration will cost $2.7 million within three years, and maximum – $4.3 million for the same period. These calculations do not include costs for implementation, however, specify vendors that in most cases settings of a system will be occupied by only one day.
By words Lala, similar system configuration at other vendors will be approximately in two and more times more expensive. "We aimed to develop a configuration not only with a high performance in terms of the number of request processing per second, but also to make it at reasonable price", - the top manager said. Besides, the standard architecture will provide big flexibility as users will be able to regulate and add as required server capacities and amount of memory of a system, developers promise.
Representatives of Sybase announced start of architecture at an annual user conference in Washington, the USA. On the same action it was announced updating of software for synchronization of the Sybase Replication Server databases. Among other new products in new version 15.5 the possibility of database replication based on Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise is provided in any in-memory an environment.
