2022: Appointment as CEO of Russian Post

In early December 2022, a government directive was published on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers on the appointment of Mikhail Volkov as the new general director of the Russian Post. The document was signed by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko, who oversees the work of the Russian Post.

Volkov headed the Russian Post instead of Maxim Akimov, who, according to RBC, himself decided to leave the company because of "the desire to have more free time than the general directors of state-owned companies." The shareholder of the company was notified a few months ago, since then there have been discussions on the candidacy of a successor, the source adds. According to the publication, discussions of the candidate for the post of head of the company took place for several months.

According to another interlocutor in the logistics market, in addition to Volkov, several more people were considered for the post of new head, including Alexei Skatin, who from February 2020 to September 2021 was a member of the board of Russian Post and an adviser to the general director.

The Kommersant newspaper, citing its sources, wrote about the discussion of the change of the general director of Russian Post on October 20, 2022. According to them, the reason was, among other things, the company's poor financial performance. Maxim Volkov was the main contender for the post of general director, the interlocutors noted. According to the newspaper, Maxim Akimov may become senior vice president of VTB, where he will oversee work with Post Bank.

Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Property, Land and Property Relations Sergei Gavrilov in early December 2022 confirmed the appointment of Volkov to the post of head of the Russian Post, welcoming him to this position.

I believe this is absolutely the right, if inevitable, choice because the Post Office is now facing a major crisis due to Western sanctions. Now there is a question of choosing a new model for the development of the Russian Post, "he said.[1]
