"Appius-PLM UPDM 2023.05" with local file caching capability

On May 2, 2023, APPIUS announced the release of version 2023.05 of the Appius-PLM Design and Estimate Documentation Management technical document management system.

Appius-PLM UPSD 2023.05

According to the company, the software package for digital transformation of enterprises provides a single, storage management of technical documentation and related workflows for all participants - constructions design institutes, customers and contractors.

The main additions: local caching of files and the formation of a report on the specification of equipment, products and materials in the printed form 1C: Enterprise.

As part of distributed file storage and handling, Appius-PLM UPDM implements a local file caching mechanism. The functionality of the system has been enhanced in order to reduce time and optimize the work with the documentation of users working with a large amount of data. When working in a single database from different locations with a poor network connection, many of them face the problem of waiting a long time for uploading and opening files.

Specification Report

The updated functionality will be relevant for users when working with large files. When opened, documents are uploaded to the user's working directory and a dedicated local caching directory. In this directory, files are stored in an impersonal form, and their correspondence is made at the checksum. When you reopen, files are searched by checksum in the local caching directory, and only modified files from the database are downloaded if there is a mismatch.

The second change affected the functionality of generating a report of the specification of equipment, products and materials, which is now created in printed form: 1C Enterprise, which allows you to use the Appius-UPSD system PLM without installing third-party applications. Reports are generated in accordance with GOST 21.110-2013 with the possibility of saving them in xlsx format pdf , and others supported by the platform. Generated documents can be printed immediately from the system without prior unloading. The updated revision will be especially relevant to users using. OS Linux

Appius-PLM system version UPSD 2023.05 is already available to users as part of the current technical support.

Appius-PLM UPSD 2023.04 with a module for importing specifications from xlsx files

On March 3, 2023, the company APPIUS announced the release of version 2023.04 of the Appius-PLM Design and Estimate Documentation Management technical document management system. Appius-PLM Design and Estimate Management 2023.04

According to the company, the changes in the release affected the module for importing and comparing the composition of the project specification of the document, additional notifications by letters and the mechanism for comparing pdf files. Appius-PLM UPSD has created a module for importing specifications from xlsx files to automate the process of loading the electronic document structure. Also, the electronic structure can be created manually using elements from the Engineering Reference Book (materials, equipment, other/standard products, etc.).

BOM Import Module

To load a BOM from an xlsx file, the following columns must be filled in: name, unit of measure, and quantity. In the future, the electronic specification will be used by the department employee Procurement as part of the procurement process. One of the results of the material requirements generation process is a resource specification, which will be transferred to the accounting system (for example, 1C:ERP, 1S:USO, etc.) as part of the data exchange. You can also compare structures in the updated module. You can compare the BOM of one revision of a document with the BOM of another to track changes that have occurred.

In the updated Appius-PLM release, UPSD introduced the configuration of automatic reminder notifications for incoming and outgoing letters that expire in preparation or receipt of a response. Users can set the frequency of distribution, for example, every day at 9:00.

The mechanism optimizes the work, will eliminate such errors due to the human factor as the loss of letters, forgotten unanswered letters, will not allow to delay the deadlines for work processes, for example, business processes for reviewing documentation that require a response from the counterparty. If necessary, will strengthen control over the execution of letters, containing the instructions of the management. This Appius-PLM release adds the ability to compare and merge pdf files from the Project Tree window. Previously, the functionality was available only as part of the review process.

The updated version of Appius-PLM UPSD 2023.04 is already available to users as part of the current technical support.

The Enterprise Digital Transformation Suite provides a single, reliable repository for efficient management of technical documentation and related workflows for all construction participants.

A number of improvements will simplify, and therefore speed up, the business processes of reviewing and coordinating documentation. The updated version has additional types of graphic comments, an updated system object - a protocol, an option to inherit element parameters, as well as the ability to forcibly consolidate comments for the curator. Comments were added to existing types of comments visual. Participants in the review/approval process can now highlight the commented area in - PDFfile the document with a circle, rectangle, underline with a line and circle with a pencil.

Similar to letters, protocols can be linked to a list of documents or linked to a project. The main function of the protocol is to register all tasks, questions, opinions on the topic/event/question in writing. The protocol can be run in the system according to the review and approval process.

This feature parameter inheritance mechanism allows you to make a parameter specific by property and value, and to borrow a parameter by hierarchy. One example is the inheritance of the Project attribute, which allows you to identify which project the document belongs to, even if it has been moved.

This functionality will optimize the database in terms of performance by using one record for several elements. In the updated version of Appius-PLM, the supervisor of the documentation review process can forcibly consolidate the reviewers' comments. As a result, text notes from all reviewers are automatically copied to a PDF file where the curator can edit, add, or delete existing notes.

Module for importing comments received from external experts into the system

On September 27, 2021, Appius announced that it had developed a module for importing comments received from external experts into the Appius-PLM Design and Estimate Documentation Management technical document management system.

The tool is designed to facilitate the process of uploading comments from external reviewers into the system for their subsequent consolidation in a single review process.

The module is relevant, for example, in cases of sending documentation to a technical customer who, for some reason, is not connected to a single Appius-PLM system and participates in the documentation review process remotely.

The technical customer (or another external reviewer) makes comments to the standardized template, from which the system will subsequently perform automatic import.

The functionality also adds the option to create a business process if it is not available. If there is no review process for the document, the system automatically creates a new one with comments from external experts.

The module is already available to all users of the latest Appius-PLM 2021 versions.

Outgoing Email PDF Generation Module

On September 10, 2021, the company Appius"" announced that it had developed a universal module for formation PDF-file an outgoing letter in technical document management system "Appius-PLM Design cost estimate management."

The user does not require additional actions to create a PDF file of an official letter - it is automatically generated inside the system based on an html template.

This functionality significantly speeds up and facilitates the process of forming and sending official letters within the company and to counterparties, practically eliminates the possibility of errors in their preparation. In addition, it allows organizations to create a letter template at their discretion (for example, adjust the composition of fields, their placement, etc.).

The affected fields (subject, content, sender, etc.) are loaded into the file automatically and the generated letter is immediately displayed in the system viewer.

The Appius-PLM Design and Estimate Management system allows enterprise employees in a single digital environment to jointly manage large amounts of technical information related to the development, storage, coordination and search of documentation in project institutes, customers and construction contractors.

As of September 10, 2021, the functionality is available to all users of the latest versions of Appius-PLM 2021.

Role Group Processing Module

On September 6, 2021, Appius announced that it had added group processing of roles to the Appius-PLM Design and Estimate Documentation Management technical document management system.

The Universal Rights Administration Tool speeds up the assignment of roles to a list of users. Now, to add a new role or delete a temporary one, you do not need to alternately enter the card of each user and change roles individually - the replacement takes place instantly in one window for the entire selection.

The module is relevant for large projects (from 500 users). For example, when you need to assign roles for a large list of new downloaded users at the same time.

You can quickly find the right users in the system using filters by organization, department, and list of already installed roles.

At the beginning of September 2021, the functionality is available to all users of the latest versions of Appius-PLM 2021.

External Mail E-mail Module

On August 30, 2021, Appius announced that it had developed a universal module for sending letters to external mail from the Appius-PLM Design and Estimate Data Management technical document management system. Now messages can be sent to external addresses without leaving the system in a couple clicks.

The send function is available from several modules of the system:

Outgoing letters - for sending official letters to the counterparty's contact person (the module automatically generates - PDFfile letters based on the completed card).

Incoming letters - to inform users about the registration of incoming letters in the system.

Outgoing invoices - to send the results of the review of documents to the contractor immediately from the system. If the annotation files are large, they will be uploaded to the network resource or to FTP.

Explorer - to upload selected files.

Reports - to send a report generated in the system.

In the form of sending a letter, standard fields are filled in, as when working in any mail client (recipients, subject, content, etc.). In the table of contents, you can create any appearance (tables, fonts, image, etc.). Attachment files are displayed in the corresponding tab, and in the contents their names are automatically formed into a list.

In addition, the system has created predefined message templates: for an outgoing letter, for an incoming letter, for an invoice, for an approval document, and for sending a report. The addressee in the template can be a user, a group of users, counterparty contact persons, a counterparty or an arbitrary email address.

According to the company, the use of the module at the end of August 2021 is available to all users of the latest versions of Appius-PLM 2021.

Responsibility Matrix Import Module

On August 23, 2021, Appius announced that it had developed a responsibility matrix import module in the Appius-PLM Design and Estimate Data Management technical document management system.

This functionality makes it possible to facilitate and reduce the time for preparing templates for the documentation review and approval process in the system. The system automatically sends a list of review participants for the document based on its parameters. This greatly accelerates the distribution of project documentation received from the contractor.

How does it work

First of all, you need to fill out the template of the documentation distribution matrix - this is a single file that includes data about system users, their roles (reviewer, informed person, curator, approver) in the business process, as well as conditions based on document properties (for example, brand, discipline, object, designation, etc.).

The responsibility matrix can be unified for all documentation, as well as broken down by project. The matrix allows you to specify the dates (in hours) of the first and second review of the document.

Then, in the import module, select the filled matrix file and map condition columns with document properties. After clicking Read Data is prepared for import to verify that it is correct. The system selects existing matching templates for updating them, and also notifies when the user or the parameters specified in the matrix are not found.

When you click Record, the system creates new ones and updates existing ones reconciliation templates.

In the future, when you create the next review process, the list of participants will be filled in automatically based on the corresponding template, selected based on the specified selection conditions (for example, disciplines + document type).

The module is already available to all users of the latest Appius-PLM 2021 versions.

Automatically build a project structure

On August 16, 2021, Appius presented the updated functionality of the Appius-PLM Management of Design and Estimate Documentation technical document management system, which allows you to build a project structure when importing data from the Master Document Register.

In the first step, the system creates the data download item cards. By selecting the required Excel format file for import, the user in the Settings sets the set of parameters necessary for import (correspondence of columns and properties).

In the next step, in the Settings, you specify the parameters for building the project structure tree. To do this, you specify column and property mapping settings for each Structure Level (1, 2, 3, etc.) and Element View (Object → Subobject → Folder, etc.).

In addition, the advanced functionality allows:

  • Add parameters to an already created structure.
  • Update item parameter values
  • create a revision (change) when the symbol matches;
  • Add files to documents by searching for them by mask (tag and revision number).

After you record the data in the database, you create documents and project structure with the specified parameters.

You can save column and property mapping settings to a file and apply them to subsequent Data Import sessions.

The ability to build a project structure when importing data from the documentation registry is already available to users of the latest versions of Appius-PLM 2021.

Instant access to drawings and models for production workers

On July 29, 2021, the company Appius announced the availability in the Appius system of PLM the ability to view a files set of technological documentation from the nomenclature card. 1C

According to the developers, the expansion of the functionality of the exchange module between Appius-PLM systems and accounting systems on the 1C:Enterprise 8 platform significantly reduced the time for searching for documentation and simplified access to design information for employees working in production departments.

The integration mechanism takes into account the version of elements and their documents, so that only the latest archived version of the document file is torn off for viewing, and the canceled documentation is not displayed and remains available for viewing only in Appius-PLM.

The display settings are available in the 1C:ERP system and are based on the addition of an extension and external processing to the configuration. For viewing to work, the Appius-PLM information base must be published to a web server. Integration is based on the use of 1C HTTP services.

After the exchange between the information bases within the item cards, it becomes possible to access the window of the list of files of all current documents associated with the item of the Appius-PLM configuration element. Document files are viewed in associative programs.

Extended functionality within the framework of enterprise digitalization is available to users of the latest versions of Appius-PLM Product Lifecycle Management and Appius-PLM Design and Estimate Management.

Appius-PLM PDMS 2021 with custom module "Import documents from registry" "

On February 11, 2021, APPIUS announced the release of an updated version of the Appius-PLM 2021 technical document automation system: modern mechanisms have been added, integration modules operate in an updated mode, working with letters has become more convenient, performance has been optimized, and the openness of the source code ensures low cost of ownership and maintenance. For Western-oriented companies, the English interface and full-featured data management are supported.

According to the company, the project data management system "Appius-PLM Management of Design and Estimate Documentation" (UPSD) is designed for project management and automation of engineering (technical) document flow related to the development, storage, coordination and search of documentation in design institutes, customers and construction contractors.

Some of the updates in version 2021 are:

  • A custom module, Import Documents from Registry, has been added to allow you to import documents into the system from an Excel file.

Import documents from the registry

The most particular example of using the module is importing documents from the register of issued documentation prepared by the design institute. The module reads an Excel file with the correspondence of table columns and properties in the system, after which you can manually adjust and specify the columns required for import.

It is also possible to import as-built documentation using this module (for example, by connecting construction supervision employees to the system). To import data, it is necessary to activate the register of acceptance documentation and call the import module, which will fill in all the settings for the standardized form (VSN 012).

At the stage of preparing data for writing to the system, the module searches for existing elements based on the configured uniqueness check for the specified type of element (as-built document, set of documents, estimate, etc.). Thus, the module allows you to reload parameters to existing elements. You can also use the import results display function to correct errors before saving data to the system.

  • A custom Parameter Handling module has been added to allow you to add and change parameters for selected items.

During the operation of the system, there is always a need to add parameters (with or without a value) to existing elements of a project.

The module also allows you to change the values of previously created element parameters. Often, after importing documents from the registry, you need to set a value for some parameter (for example, Status) that has not been highlighted as a separate column in the Excel file.

  • The Contracts reference book has been added and the corresponding tab has been added to the Explorer window.

An agreed and signed contract is important to monitor in time and quality. With the help of the Contracts reference book in Appius-PLM UPSD, you can manage contracts, track the belonging of documents to design contracts, construction and installation works, etc., This allows you to control not only the implementation of the contract as a whole, but also its stages, specific transactions within the framework of one contract.

During implementation, the system is quickly put into commercial operation. The update to this version is available to users as part of the current technical support.

PLM 2018.40.2.31

information In order to further automate the integration of the Appius-PLM system with the KOMPAS-3D, the company has implemented additional settings for the PLM component that optimize the work of the designer after loading the model from the CAD system, excluding the repeated use of menu buttons.

The functionality of the component has added 3 additional options within the "Execute in PLM" group:

  • Draft specification
    • Automatically assign BOM sections based on the types of elements created in Appius-PLM based on 3D CAD models. If you force 3D models to specify a part view for a section assignment, this value is a priority.

  • Group by Quantity

    • The same components of the product are automatically grouped. This is due to the fact that within the framework of the 3D model of an assembly unit, each element (several identical elements) exists separately as an object, and when placed in the system, it has as many applicability records in the amount of one piece as the elements are included in the 3D model.

  • Group with items

    • Using the item-based ESI grouping option will not combine the same items that have different item values specified within the BOM.

Thus, the added functionality of the PLM component allows you to simplify and speed up the work of the designer by automating, in accordance with additional settings, a number of mandatory actions previously performed manually.

According to company representatives, integration with CAD systems such as SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Autodesk Inventor, T-FLEX CAD has been implemented.

Support for version 2.4.5 of the 1C:ERP Enterprise Management 2 system

On July 13, 2018, APPIUS announced the release of Appius-PLM Product Lifecycle Management, which provides a mechanism for selecting the Resource Specification Manufacturing Process Type depending on the specified Manufacturing Technology Processing Method. Accordingly, exchange rules have been issued between Appius-PLM and 1C:ERP UP2 version 2.4.5.

Mobile App Release for Appius-PLM

Photo: Appius Company

On July 5, 2018, Appius announced the release of a mobile application that allows users of the Appius-PLM Design and Estimate Management system, wherever they are, to maintain communication with current project data.

The application runs on two mobile operating systems, Android and iOS, and is designed to view information on the structure of projects, products, for searching and viewing documents and files. The mobile application can be used on mobile devices such as a smartphone or tablet. The number of connections to the database is practically limited only to the web server, there are no other restrictions.

Setting up a connection to the Appius-PLM database of the UPDM is quite simple: you need to specify the address and port of the Internet server of the Appius-PLM database, as well as the username and password.

You can view the structure of projects and documents in the List, Hierarchical List, and Tree modes.

You can find the documentation using the search bar and the QR code of the drawing, which is transmitted by the system to the PDF file before printing it. When searching by QR code, the application determines the unique GUID of the element/document created automatically by the system when they are first saved in the Appius-PLM system. After finding the desired object (document) through the application, the user can view its properties and files.

Having received the required information (by document status, graphic image, etc.), you can go through the search to another project, object, product, document. Remote receipt of up-to-date information by a specialist at the construction site, a technologist in the workshop, a test designer increases the efficiency and overall efficiency of work, as well as speeds up decision-making in the company.

File Browsing Configuration Mechanism

On June 21, 2018, APPIUS announced the development of a specialized mechanism for configuring the ability to view files and secondary presentation of electronic product structure documents created in Appius-PLM directly from the nomenclature card in the accounting system.

This enhanced the functionality of the exchange module between Appius-PLM and 1C:Enterprise 8. ERP Enterprise Management 2 "and reduce the time to search for design and technological documentation for employees working in production units.

The display is set up within 1C:Enterprise 8 system. ERP Enterprise Management 2 "and is based on the addition of an external report to the Printing, Reporting and Processing section.

Engineering and Process Documentation

As a result, after the exchange between information bases has been carried out, within the framework of item cards, resource specifications and roadmaps, it becomes possible to open the Appius-PLM Documents and Configuration Files window. If there are several documents within the product composition element, it is possible to open all files for viewing or to open the file directly in case of one document in the composition. Document files are viewed in associative programs.

You can also view the secondary representation of items and their documents. With this setting, the image files of all documents and the element itself are automatically opened. The advantages of this method are that you do not need to additionally install licenses for CAD systems or specialized programs for viewing.

3D Model Renderer

On June 13, 2018, APPIUS announced the development of a 3D model visualization module so that the content of 3D models loaded into the Appius-PLM database from various CAD systems is available even to users who do not have appropriate 3D modeling systems installed at the workplace.

Product Lifecycle Management

The work of the 3D Model Visualizer is based on a software library for the JavaScript programming language, which allows you to create interactive 3D graphics that operate in a wide range of compatible web browsers. STL format is used as viewing files. This format is widely used to store three-dimensional models of objects with the possibility of using them in additive technologies. Information about an object is stored as a list of triangular faces and their normals that describe its surface. The STL file can be text (ASCII) or binary. It is with the binary file that the interaction in the system is built. This is due to the smaller file size compared to ASCII. Importing models into STL format is supported by most CAD systems (Compass-3D, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, T-Flex CAD, Inventor, etc.).

Product Structure Management

The web visualizer allows you to view 3D models without using a CAD system, set them in different orientations (views: front, top, side), isometric location, and also allows you to rotate the model using the mouse.

The 3D Model Renderer is available for use in three main configuration startup modes: Thick Client, Thin Client, and Web Interface. No third-party components or individual licenses are required to work. The module is free of charge as part of the configuration, starting with Appius-PLM 2018.15.

Appius-PLM 2018 Release

On May 31 APPIUS PLM PLM , 2018, the company announced the release of the Appius-2018 system.

Appius-PLM 2018 is a multifunctional information complex for product lifecycle management that allows you to combine design and technology divisions into a single enterprise information space, with the ability to effectively interact with the ERP system in the field of production planning and management.

Appius-PLM 2018

From the point of view of design preparation of production, Appius-PLM 2018 ensures the fulfillment of the main tasks:

  • maintenance of the electronic structure of the product (GOST 2.053-2013);
  • management of electronic documents (GOST 2.051-2013);
  • Creating and editing variants
  • collective work of several specialists on projects;
  • creation and maintenance of a secure electronic file archive;
  • delimitation of access rights;
  • automatic check of validity of change notices;
  • work with a restrictive list of standard, other products, electro-radio elements and materials;
  • Support for product serial numbers
  • Automatically generate an electronic product structure based on 3D models.

According to the developer, special attention should be paid to the set of integration modules for CAD systems, with the help of which it is possible to create a structural product structure from a 3D model formed by the designer in the CAD system. The base part of this model is automatically placed in Appius-PLM using the appropriate PLM component. Parses all available configurations and creates an electronic product structure based on them, placing all associated files in Appius-PLM. PLM components are designed for CAD systems such as SolidWorks, Compass-3D, Autodesk Inventor, Solid Edge, T-FLEX CAD.

From the point of view of technological preparation of production, Appius-PLM 2018 provides a separate Appius-Technology module, which provides:

  • electronic creation of single technological processes for different types of production;
  • description of complex technological routes with repeated calls in workshops/sections;
  • creation of production process maps, taking into account the movement and lying of products in the route;
  • Description of alignment routes within the specialized interface "Route Editor"
  • formation of group and typical technological processes within the framework of the specialized interface "TTP/GTP Editor";
  • the ability to describe the technology in the form of a roadmap within the specialized interface "Roadmap Editor";
  • work with a restrictive list of basic and auxiliary materials, as well as technological equipment;
  • possibility of automation of material and labor rationing.

The entire process of engineering and technological preparation of production can be organized as part of the project. A project management subsystem is provided for creating and managing projects.

For the possibility of approval and "electronic" approval of design and process data, the system provides for the Approval Business Process (state change). By default, approval involves restricting the rights to make changes using a prohibited security policy. Changes within the framework of approved (agreed) design and/or process data are available in the system by means of the change notification mechanism.

As a result, based on the design and technological data, a production and technological ESI is formed with parallel tracking of errors by unfilled parameters necessary for calculating the planned cost.

The integration mechanism of the Appius-PLM 2018 system and the 1C:ERP system is based on the exchange of common reference books between configurations based on specialized rules. The main information in the form of resource specifications and roadmap is prepared by a specialized ERP component based on the data of production and technological ESI.
