On May 27, 2017 the HPE company announced release of 3PAR StoreServ 9450. DWH is focused on medium business[1].

HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8450

3PAR StoreServ 8450 is a data storage array. The solution is focused on support of the organizations at implementation a flash technologies in data processing centers in the long term to refuse use of hard drives.

The array of StoreServ 8450 supports a cache memory to 4 controllers and 384 GB. The model supports up to 24 FC/iSCSI/FCoE ports and up to 480 disks SSD. The array is certified by SAP HANA Tailored Data Center Integration, he confirms compliance of the equipment to the main requirements of business applications. The updated software of HP 3PAR of File Persona will help customers to consolidate transactions of block and file storage within uniform a Tier-1 level flash platform.

3PAR StoreServ 8450, (2014)

The array does not support traditional hard drives - SSD disks of expanded capacity.

Controllers are completed with the Intel Xeon processors Ivy Bridge. The front-side bus operates on PCIe Gen3, 12-gigabit SAS is used as interconnect, optical ports support the FC protocol 16 Gb.

The tailored architecture helps to achieve high performance by means of orientation to use of a solid-state memory.

The array has a number of functions which allow to optimize use of disk space and In the solution of an ispolzuovan a chip of HP 3PAR of Gen5 Thin Express, it implements the mechanism of thin deduplication (thin deduplication).

HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000 Storage — DWH of average price range with four controllers providing data availability and the functions of quality control of service inherent earlier only to disk arrays of the class High-End. 2011: HP P10000 3PAR Storage System

In September, 2011 provided to HP new storage systems of HP P10000 of 3PAR Storage System for data processing centers which maintain functionality of providing IT in the form of service (IaaS) in private and public cloud environments. New opportunities are first of all optimization of simultaneous operation of a large number of applications in a cloud, so-called multi-user storage system. In addition new storage systems include the improved technology of effective use of disk space Thin Provisioning and the independent mechanism of balancing of loading which provides flexibility of redistribution of resources of storage system depending on requirements of business applications.

In October, 2011 during benchmark testing of performance by SPC-1 technique the storage system of HP 3PAR of P10000 V800 set a world record of processing speed of transactions in real time (OLTP). HP 3PAR of P10000 V800 provides record performance for the data processing centers of the corporate level using virtualization and cloud computing, allowing clients to consolidate successfully virtualized IT infrastructure.

"From the moment of acquisition of 3PAR we saw the task in offering clients more effective, more flexible DWH for implementation of the IaaS model (IT-kak-usluga), – David Scott, the senior vice president and the head of department of storage systems of HP tells. – The new world record of performance exceeding expectations of users of 3PAR is, of course, not only technology, but also commercial success".

Storage systems of HP P10000 of 3PAR Storage System offer ample opportunities for creation of computing environment of the corporate level on the basis of public and private clouds (IaaS model). Among them – a possibility of consolidation of the applications given sets in a cloud environment for support of unpredictable loadings, the improved Thin Provisioning technology for effective use of capacity and also the independent mechanism of balancing of loading.

Results of testing of SPC-1 represent the actual performance of an array for tasks of OLTP; they give clients the objective and adequate information about efficiency of these storage systems in comparison with the competing solutions. Results of testing underwent independent audit and today are the best of all when that was Storage Performance Council published by Council.

During testing with a capacity equivalent to thousands of virtual machines, the standard version of V800 HP 3PAR system showed result of 450212.66 SPC-1 IOP/s – 100% increase in productivity in comparison with the last record set by the HP 3PAR system.

In addition to the record performance of OLTP testing of SPC-1 confirmed exclusive convenience of HP 3PAR of V800 in management. Configuring and setup of DWH HP 3PAR V800 are executed automatically; the user needs to enter only several simple, standard commands. It allows clients to perform quickly deployment and V800 HP 3PAR tuning according to the required service level, without penetrating into subtleties of management of DWH.

For achievement of the highest results in SPC-1 tests the competing arrays use a huge number of disks, and the coefficient of useful use of capacity of an array, as a rule, makes 10-20% (4). Results of testing of SPC-1 showed that at V800 HP 3PAR storage system this indicator is several times higher – 80%. Thus, the highest at the moment in the world the capacity of the disk array is reached at effective use of hardware resources of 3PAR. V800 HP 3PAR model is really capable to help clients to cut down expenses and to provide compliance to the required service levels.


The drives SSD are capable to provide to business a number of advantages: they help to improve performance of corporate applications and to increase efficiency of the virtualized and cloud environments. At the same time, integration of SSD technology into the existing IT environments often is complicated by need to manually move data between storage levels for providing the service level stipulated with business users. It is difficult process which can lead to idle times of DPC. This problem can reduce to zero that performance benefit for which the companies wait from implementation of the drives SSD.

The version of summer of 2012 of DWH of HP 3PAR of P10000 on the basis of solid state drives helps to solve this problem. The HP solution of 3PAR Adaptive Optimization which is included in the delivery automates management of multilevel storage. It moves data on the necessary level of storage in the fullness of time, allowing to cut down expenses on management and to improve performance.

"Before deployment of software of HP 3PAR of Adaptive Optimization we had to manage our disk array manually. We spent huge amount of time for moving the storages given between levels, and, certainly, all this extremely negatively affected the service levels — Ken Kirchoff, the director of division of storage systems and the solutions Unix, Priceline tells. — Implementation of DWH of HP 3PAR and software of Adaptive Optimization allowed to reduce considerably the cost of ownership of storage and also to release personnel for the solution of other tasks …"

New DWH of HP 3PAR of P10000 based on SSD provides the same (1) performance level, as well as the previous version of HP 3PAR of P10000, however uses the smaller number of drives that allows to save a valuable space in DPC and to cut down expenses on power supply. It supports up to 512 drives SSD on one array — four times more, than earlier — and provides notable economy — to 70% for input-output operations per second and more than 80% for power supply. All this does new DWH ideal for high-performance environments (2).

New level of integration of servers and DWH

HP aims to provide the closest integration of SSD technology in the servers and DWH within the concept of convergent infrastructure.

So, HP is going to put on the market new HP Smart Cache — the improved server cache on SSD drives for ProLiant Gen8 HP servers. The new solution will use HP Smart Analytics technology that will allow to move in the automatic mode often used data on high-performance SSD drives. The intellectual caching of data executed taking into account workload will help to improve system operation considerably. In particular, it will allow to increase transaction processing performance by six (!) times (3) and to increase performance of applications for stream transfer of video content to one and a half times in comparison with the systems of the previous generations (4).

Besides, the HP solution of Smart Cache provides closer integration of HP servers of ProLiant Gen8 and DWH of HP 3PAR. It is capable to copy in real time data from HP 3PAR arrays in a SSD cache on ProLiant Gen8 HP servers. It means an opportunity to increase performance, to lower time of delays, to cut down expenses and to react more flexibly to change of requirements of SLA for the customer.

"The drives SSD are capable to provide that performance level which is necessary for the cloud and virtualized environments. The problem consists that many infrastructures still require "manual" management of multilevel storage that creates additional difficulties and expenses — David Scott, the senior vice president and the head of department of storage systems, HP says. — Automation of data movement between HP servers of ProLiant and DWH of HP 3PAR within one array allows to implement fully advantages of the drives SSD".
