Documentum was developed by EMC company. After Dell absorbed EMC and sold a part of its assets. In September, 2016 OpenText signed the agreement with Dell EMC on purchase from the last of division of corporate content (Enterprise Content Division), including product families of Documentum, InfoArchive and Leap.

2016

Version 7.3: Clients forced Documentum to make friends with PostgreSQL and Linux OS

On November 1, 2016 announced Dell EMC release of the new version of the platform for corporate content management – Documentum 7.3. At the time of the message there was a version for developers, and the platform should become available to wide use in December.

According to Arbor to implement support of Docker in Documentum the company spodvinut requests from clients. Other new developments allowing to accelerate migration on new Documentum, Mark Arbor, for example, calls the automation equipment of migration and scripts allowing to customize quickly a system at all levels: operating system, databases, server part, etc.

The software maintenance with the open code became one more key innovation in Documentum: in particular, operating systems CentOS and Ubuntu and also DBMS PostgreSQL. Mark Arbor told TAdviser that support of the open source software was implemented because of the increased number of requests from customers. One of the reasons of their keen interest – economic. The representative of Dell EMC noted that there are open researches showing as it is possible to save much, having refused DBMS Oracle for benefit of PostgreSQL.

In the USA state agencies are very focused on use of the Open source software, Arbor adds. In the country there is a policy which orders to state agencies to look for when purchasing software, first of all, solutions with the open code. According to Arbor, the considerable number of requests comes also from the American organizations working in the field of education. Interest in the open source software comparable with American, the company, perhaps, observes only in Russia, he added.

One of factors of increase in demand for PostgreSQL the representative of Dell EMC also calls technology improvements of this DBMS lately:

Clients see that PostgreSQL DBMS becomes better: indicators of scalability, stability improved. Thanks to it a system is suitable for use in extensive environments more now, than 3-4 years ago, - he noted.

On Mark Arbor's words, the main demand for PostgreSQL DBMS proceeds from clients of the average size, however were interested in support of open DBMS in Documentum and the company with the state of 5-10 thousand human.

Believe in the companies that customers at whom Oracle or Microsoft are set as the standard will hardly transfer a system to open DBMS. At the same time, to the companies which partially already use Documentum and want to expand a system on the bigger number of users or implement it from scratch, the new option can be interesting.

In addition to the Open source software the new version of Documentum supports work in cloud infrastructure services, including Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

One more change in Documentum 7.3 - the improved possibilities of interaction with different external systems (for example, SAP) for the realization account of support of RESTful and CMIS 1.1 services.

Refer to key changes in Dell EMC also acceleration of certification of all the products of the line of ESM necessary for their work on the Documentum platform and for work with each other. Mark Arbor explained TAdviser that earlier there was a time gap between release of the Documentum platform and certification of other products EMC for content management, and now they are ready to work with the new platform in day of its exit.

Open Text buys division of corporate content of EMC for $1.6 billion

Removal of a product based on EMC Documentum from the register of the Russian software

On June 8, 2016 it became known of removal from the Register of domestic software of a number of software products upon their foreign origin. Among them there was a solution "M1: ESM the Platform" Metamodel-Group companies based on EMC Documentum. In more detail - on to the link.

Entry into the register of the Russian software

At the end of April, 2016 the first partner solution based on the EMC Documentum ECM system was included in the register of the Russian software. "M1:ECM the Platform" from Metamodel-Group company became it. The area director of EMC ECD (Enterprise Content Division) on Eastern Europe, Russia and the CIS Vyacheslav Kadnikov told TAdviser that on the way also the solution Croc: the application is submitted and already passed the examination, but as of the beginning of May the solution is still not added to the list. Submitted the application with the solution to the register also to Corus Consulting, he added.

In June, 2016 the software products which appeared in actual fact covers for the IBM and EMC platforms^[1] were deleted from the Register of the domestic software supervised the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications without drawing attention to a situation^[2].

Kadnikov told TAdviser in January, 2016 that a number of partners are going to give the practices based on EMC Documentum to the register of the domestic software. Then he said that the OEM model will be applied to the solutions based on Documentum registered as Russian by software, and in some cases EMC does not require that at a product there was a label of her company. Licenses for the product EMC in this case are incorporated in the license for a complex product of the partner.

Even if a system is completely written in Russia irrespective of any platforms, she all the same, as a rule, uses the western DBMS, operating and office systems, application servers. Since January 1, 2016 the ministries and departments of the law are forbidden to purchase the foreign software if their domestic analogs are entered in the register of the Russian software. Later the president Vladimir Putin said that since July 1, 2016 restrictions of purchases of foreign software will extend also to state companies.

So inclusion of solutions based on EMC Documentum in the register purchases urgent need, Vyacheslav Kadnikov notes: the main part of clients of EMC in Russia is made by large state companies and the companies with state participation. State structures among customers are present too, however their share is not so big. At the same time interest in that in the register there were solutions based on Documentum, both state customers, and state companies show, Kadnikov says.

Vyacheslav Kadnikov also told TAdviser that are going to submit solutions based on EMC Documentum also customers at whom they are already set. It is necessary to conform to new requirements in the field of purchases of software to have an opportunity to develop the solutions further. According to Kadnikov, as of May preparatory work on inclusion of the ECM systems in the register of domestic software conducts two very large state companies. They are going to submit applications on behalf of the internal IT daughters.

Examination of the products applying for inclusion in the register of the Russian software is carried out especially for it by the created expert advice. If the product conforms to all requirements established by the law about the register, then it will be included in it, one of members of expert advice, the CEO of Alt Linux companyAlexey Smirnov noted in a conversation with TAdviser earlier. The model of getting into the register which is used by EMC according to him, is quite possible, however in each separate case it is necessary to study carefully the materials provided by the applicant on a product.

I think, also other foreign vendors will try to use such model, and probably developers of the law on the register and criteria of compliance provided a similar situation, - Alexey Smirnov argued.

According to TAdviser applications for inclusion of the solutions in the register of domestic software were submitted also by the partners of IBM using the IBM FileNet ECM system. Their requests were for some reason rejected.

2015

Popularity of a product in Russia

EMC Documentum Records Suite 6.8

Architecture of EMC Documentum
