2022: Implementation of a software and hardware complex to speed up the process of processing data on the state of natural communities in 13 regions of Russia

On January 30, 2023, MTS announced that it had deployed a software and hardware complex in Volgograd for the Federal Scientific Center for Agroecology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The MTS decision made it possible to speed up the process of processing data on the state of natural communities in thirteen regions of Russia, and, based on the analysis of information, to make forecasts and make recommendations to effectively combat environmental problems, including desertification and drought.

The hardware and software complex is a set of servers and IT equipment using more than 100 neural networks and artificial intelligence. They continuously process and store information on changes in natural ecosystems coming from thirteen subjects of Russia, including Volgograd, Astrakhan, Rostov regions, the republics of Dagestan, Tatarstan, Khakassia, Buryatia, as well as from the Stavropol and Krasnoyarsk territories through satellite monitoring of territories. IT equipment of MTS makes it possible to speed up the processing of information on the state of natural communities, generalization and storage of field research data obtained from the results of expeditionary work.

In solving environmental problems, the scientific community is increasingly turning to IT solutions that radically change the productivity of familiar processes. The MTS ecosystem has expertise and a wide portfolio of digital solutions for solving environmental problems, such technologies as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, intelligent video surveillance, geoanalytics help to increase the efficiency of the scientific process, which means they increase the speed and quality of solving socially important problems.
noted the head of the Center for Social and Charitable Programs of MTS Olga Yurkova.

The equipment made it possible to speed up the process of summarizing and storing information several times, studying the factors that affect land degradation. The center has been conducting regular research in the field of agroecology for more than 90 years. However, the rapid increase in the amount of information raised the question of the need to use innovations to work more efficiently. The main task of the geo-information system of desertification and its monitoring using the technologies and capabilities of MTS is to monitor the processes of desertification and predict the development of the situation with the further return of degraded lands to operation. The software and hardware complex is also used to implement the small river protection project. It is planned to expand the infrastructure from MTS,
told Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Director of the Federal Scientific Center of Agroecology of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Belyaev.

At the end of 2022, MTS launched a comprehensive project to combat desertification and dust storms in the Astrakhan region. Volunteers of the company, together with the scientific community specializing in soil degradation, planted more than 4,000 shrubs of juzgun and other drought-resistant plants in the Astrakhan region.
