This OS in Russian Post was tested for about a year. Even earlier, in 2016, the organization purchased about 10 thousand mobile point-of-sale terminals with the smartphones working running Android OS for mail carriers and couriers.
Use of mobile devices is a technology break in terms of development of Russian Post as we speak about development of services using modern technologies, - Dmitry Strashnov noted in a conversation with TAdviser. - It is a serious step which will be scaled further. |
Further Russian Post is going to buy for device mail carriers based on Sailfish OS. On PIEF Russian Post signed the memorandum of cooperation in information technology field with ESN companies (the major shareholder of the Finnish company Jolla, the developer of mobile Sailfish OS) and "The open mobile platform" (Sailfish Mobile OS RUS developer). Jointly they are going to work on development of the mobile solution based on Sailfish OS taking into account requirements of Russian Post.
Moreover, according to the CEO of "The open mobile platform" Pavel Eyges, the smartphones which were already purchased earlier on Android are also going to be transferred to Sailfish OS.
Eyges explained TAdviser that when rendering services which are provided by Russian Post it is necessary to observe statutory requirements on personal data protection. He noted that to provide it on devices from Android OS, it is necessary to buy in addition and install on devices different additional resources on data protection which considerably increase the cost of the final solution.
In turn, based on Sailfish OS the finished solution providing necessary data protection without installation of additional software is delivered, he says: in it there are built-in information security tools. Besides, in February, 2017 this OS received the certificate of FSB.
