2022: Reindeer are marked with Silflex 3D-A electronic ear tags

20,000 deer of the three western regions of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug - Priuralsky, Shuryshkarsky and Yamalsky - were marked in the summer of 2022 with Silflex 3D-A electronic ear tags. This was reported by the Siltek Group of Companies on July 26, 2022.

Specialists of the Siltek Group of Companies again personally flew to the tundra to take part in the tagging of animals in the Far North. I if in 2021 they conducted a trial tagging of several individuals and testing the Sillink Livestock software product, then in 2022 the event is held for the first time at the regional program level in parallel with animal vaccination.

In the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, a driven type of reindeer husbandry, livestock on the way, does not stand still, constantly migrates, and therefore it is much harder to work than with animals in stalls. The first impressions of this system are positive. The main plus is the transition from paper to electronic accounting, document management. This speeds up and simplifies the process of interaction with veterinary services, it is easier for reindeer herders themselves to work with deer. They receive information about the livestock in electronic form: from an automated database to their smartphones,
told Vladislav Mulyavin, deputy head of the State Budgetary Institution "Salekhard Center for Veterinary Medicine."

During 2021, specialists of the Siltek Group of Companies, together with the Salekhard veterinary service, finalized the Sillink Livestock software, focusing on the requests and non-standard working conditions of Yamal reindeer herders, and prepared the necessary technological base for this project. It was necessary to put numbers and logos on tags, install and configure software on readers, teach them to use specialists of veterinary services and reindeer herders. To do this, a number of training video sessions were held and this practice will continue in the future.

It is noteworthy that this is the first project among government veterinary services in our country using an electronic ear tag in the microwave radio band (UHF). The special, complex conditions of the process of tagging and vaccination of animals make the old LF technology ineffective, which gives a short reading distance and excludes group accounting. An additional difficulty was the lack of a stable Internet in the places of tagging - the Yamal tundra, therefore, current readers and their own Sillink Livestock software were used, capable of processing data and forming reporting documents and tables, speeding up the work of veterinary specialists and reducing manual labor,
commented on Bogdan Zinchenko, Director for Industry Sales Development of Siltek Group of Companies.
