The share of domestic vaccines for animals in the Russian Federation reached a record 76%
The share of domestic vaccines for animals in Russia reached a historic maximum of 76% in the first half of 2024. This is evidenced by data from the analytical company RNC Pharma, published in July 2024.
According to experts, the volume of production of Russian veterinary vaccines in the first six months of 2024 amounted to 15.6 billion doses, which is 80% higher than in the same period in 2023. The total volume of the veterinary vaccine market in Russia, including the supply of foreign drugs, reached 20.5 billion doses.
The import of veterinary vaccines to Russia in January-June 2024 amounted to 4.9 billion doses, which corresponds to 24% of the total market for this category of drugs. Until 2022, foreign vaccines dominated the market, occupying about 60% of the natural volume.
According to statistics, in Rosstat June 2024, 2.7 billion doses of veterinary vaccines were produced in Russia, which is 62% more than in June 2023. The maximum volume of production in 2024 was recorded in May - 3.4 billion doses, which is 2.6 times higher than in May 2023.
The North-Western Federal District became the leader in the production of veterinary vaccines in the first half of 2024, providing 56% of the all-Russian volume - 8.7 billion doses. In second place is the Central Federal District with a share of 43% and a production volume of 6.7 billion doses.
In the first half of 2024, 40 new drugs for animal vaccine prophylaxis received registration certificates, of which more than 62% belong to domestic companies. Among the approved vaccines, birds are leading, accounting for more than 65% of the total registered vaccines.
The leaders in the number of registrations of new vaccines in the first half of 2024 were the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Federal Center for Animal Health" (VNIIZH) and the company "Vetbiohim," which received a total of 14 new registration certificates.[1]
2023: Vetbiohim launches import-substituting vaccine against cow infectious diseases
The company "Vetbiohim," which localized production in the special economic zone (SEZ) "Technopolice Moscow," has developed an import-substituting inactivated vaccine "Combovak-Endomast" against infectious diseases in cows. It is an analogue of foreign drugs, but it costs less. This was announced on March 2, 2023 by the head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy, which is part of the Complex of Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations of the capital, Vladislav Ovchinsky. 2022: Foreign veterinary vaccine supplies fall 3.4%
Deliveries of foreign veterinary vaccines to Russia in 2022 amounted to 15.9 billion rubles, down 3.4% compared to a year ago. Shipments of drugs in physical terms increased from 6.1 million to 7 million packages (from 18.1 billion to 21.7 billion doses). This is evidenced by data from analysts at RNC Pharma, which were released on February 8, 2023.
According to experts, despite the complicated working conditions in the market in 2022, the market as a whole recovered from the lows of 2021. The indicators of 2019 are still very far away, but at that time the surge in activity of participants in foreign economic activity was not associated with objective processes in relation to demand, but was initiated by regulatory changes in the industry.
The total range of vaccines for productive animals by brand for the year decreased by 11 positions, in total, 2022 drugs from 93 corporations were shipped to our country 17 year. From the point of view of the ruble dynamics of supplies, the indicators of shipments of Eripesten from the Czech Biovet were distinguished (3.8 times compared to 2021 in rubles), the drug is intended for the prevention of erysipelas and classical swine fever. The second outstanding result was demonstrated by Innovax from the American "MSD" (3.4 times growth), the drug is designed to prevent Marek, Newcastle and Gamborough disease in birds.
The assortment of brands for the year practically did not change, in 2022 11 brands were shipped. The total drop in supplies was almost exclusively due to problems regarding the import of drugs of the Nobivak line from MSD, during the year of shipment decreased by 75% (in rubles), it is interesting that if in 2021 the drug was shipped to Russia monthly, then in March 2022 there were no deliveries at all, and in June, July and October deliveries were purely symbolic. The maximum dynamics in the group of vaccines for unproductive animals was characterized by Bioveta drugs, in particular Biofel (70 times growth) and Biokan (2059 times), it was actually about replacing individual products of the Nobivak line for cats and dogs, which experienced difficulties with supplies.[2]
