In 2023, Vnukovo Airport announced the payment of dividends for 2022 in the amount of 90.65 million rubles, as well as the payment from the retained earnings of previous years, accumulated in the amount of almost 5 billion rubles. In 2023, the passenger traffic of Vnukovo airport amounted to 14.5 million people against 16.4 million a year earlier (a decrease of 11%). This is evidenced by the data of the Federal Air Transport Agency, published at the end of January 2024.

According to Interfax, citing materials from the department, in 2023 Vnukovo took fourth place in the ranking of the largest airports in Russia in terms of the number of passengers transported after Sheremetyevo (36.3 million passengers), Pulkovo (20.4 million people) and Domodedovo (19.9 million).

According to the Federal Air Transport Agency, domestic transportation through Vnukovo Airport in 2023 decreased by 36% compared to 2022, to 6.6 million people. At the same time, foreign transportation, on the contrary, increased by 30%, to 7.9 million passengers, the news agency notes.

A significant reduction in passenger traffic "Vnukovo" in 2023 was previously predicted by the co-owner of the airport Vitaly Vantsev. The airport will miss about 3 million people due to the transfer of half of Pobeda's flights to Sheremetyevo, he said in an interview with RBC in July 2023.

Vnukovo and other Moscow airports in 2023 were forced to suspend work for "airport-independent reasons," including the carpet plan. Since the summer of 2023, airports have repeatedly introduced various restrictions during attacks by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the capital region. Sources Sheets"" note that unscheduled airport closures have a stronger effect on airlines than on the air harbors themselves. For them, based at closing Moscow airports, unscheduled costs increase many times due to the presence of connections and the transfer of several flights at once.[2]

Failure in IT baggage handling system led to giant queues at Vnukovo airport

According to the Telegram channel SHOT, employees of the air harbor advised people to attribute things to the oversized baggage reception desk. But in the end, many people also gathered there. In connection with the incident, there were delays in flights. The airport administration urgently began to look for the causes of the failure. While it was being eliminated, luggage was taken and hand-decorated.

To hand over their suitcase, people had to stand for several hours. One of the passengers, in a conversation with Vesti, said that she had time for her flight, but he took off with a serious delay.

2019: Cancellation of electronic registration for passengers

On December 10, 2019, Vnukovo Airport stopped accepting electronic boarding passes. Thus, passengers need to print the boarding pass after online check-in or get it at the airport at the check-in counters.

The fact that Vnukovo no longer accepts electronic boarding passes saved on a mobile device was reported by Pobeda Airlines, which flies from this airport to 33 Russian and 23 foreign cities.

from December 10, Vnukovo registers passengers only with printed boarding passes

Electronic boarding passes on domestic flights to Vnukovo began to be accepted from June 1, 2019. The reason for the refusal of them in the press service "Vnukovo" and "Victory" by December 10, 2019 did not comment.

In an interview with RBC, the head of Victory Andrei Kalmykov said that the air carrier appealed to the Ministry of Transport with a proposal to exclude from the federal aviation rules the obligation of airlines to include in the tariff the costs of registering passengers at the airport.

Now, even if the customer registers online, we still pay the airport for this service, which is not actually used. And these costs, of course, are included in the ticket price, - said Kalmykov.

An electronic boarding pass allows a passenger to enter the clean area of the airport and into the cabin of the aircraft. When passing the control, the screen of the device with the open barcode contained in the coupon is applied to the scanner and then presented to the agent on landing. The barcode pass contains the passenger's last name and initials, flight number, departure date, boarding end time, boarding exit number and boarding seat number on board the aircraft. If necessary, other information can be indicated.

Russian airports have received the opportunity to let passengers into the plane on electronic boarding passes since February 24, 2019.[5]

2011: Association with Sheremetyevo

Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports will be combined into a single complex. This was announced on March 28, 2011 by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin at a meeting on the development of the Moscow aviation hub[6].

"We agreed that we will unite Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports into a single complex," the head of the Russian government said, adding that investments in the newly created single complex will amount to tens of billions of rubles.

At the same time, V. Putin stressed that in the future the complex will be privatized. "I want to note right away: the state has no goal to sit in these assets forever. This step is aimed at creating a single complex, equipping it and then bringing it to the market at the appropriate market price and privatizing it, "the Prime Minister said.

Earlier it was just about an alliance between two Moscow airports. As the Russian press reported in November last year, Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo prepared a memorandum of cooperation, promising to support each other during the reconstruction. According to the terms of the alliance being created, airlines will be able to move from Vnukovo to Sheremetyevo and vice versa without changing the terms of service.
