RBC-TV is the Russian business TV channel. On the channel are provided:

  • economic, financial and political news of Russia and foreign countries;
  • state-of-the-art reviews, forecasts and comments of experts;
  • interview with the leading politicians and businessmen;
  • reviews of the business press;
  • the special programs devoted to current problems of the Russian business and a situation in the Russian and international financial markets.

According to TNS, the average daily channel audience of RBC-TV made from April 1 to June 30, 2013 2.8 million people. On the website of the channel affirms at this time that its audience exceeds 69 million people.

History

2017: Igor Poletayev is the new head of TV channel

On July 7, 2017 PJSC RBC reported that Igor Poletayev, the former editor of business broadcasting and the TV host of NTV becomes the new managing director of RBC TV channel. It replaced on this position of Elmar Murtazayev.

Also this day sources of the Meduza edition reported that the TV channel was left by the general producer Alexander Bogomolov and the director of a product Igor Sadreev. The intention to leave was confirmed by the creative producer of RBC Alexander Urzhanov. According to Meduza, the channel is left also the head of Alfiya Zivere information service and correspondents Roman Super and Rodion Chepel. RBC-TV reported to the TASS agency that employees go on "long leave", and there is no mass layoff[1].

Igor Poletayev began to work as the journalist in 2000 in RBC, in 2003 began to work at RBC TV channel as the correspondent, the editor and the leader. In 2006 passed to NTV where worked as the leader and the editor.

"I started a career of the journalist in RBC and worked at TV channel from the moment of its creation therefore I very much appreciate and I respect this brand. I will need some time to be up on, get acquainted with a command and to understand a vector of development of TV channel" — Igor Poletayev says.

2016: Murtazayev the head of TV channel instead of Gleb Shagun

Since April 1, 2016 Elmar Murtazayev is appointed the general producer of RBC TV TV channel. Since September 1, 2016 he is appointed the managing director of RBC TV instead of Gleb Shagun who left the company.

2015

Exception of number of public channels

In the summer of 2015 the RBC channel dropped out of the second multiplex — a packet of the national obligatory public TV channels of digital television. All want to get to a multiplex, but it is very difficult (in the second multiplex a limited number of places — 10, and 300 channels apply for them). Channels are selected by the unclear principle there. However it gives enormous preferences: the place in a multiplex (both the 1st, and the 2nd) obliges partners to include the channel in universal broadcasting that gives it the chance to develop the brand, to do more expensive advertizing, etc. Having unseated in the second multiplex (it conceded to ""Spas"" TV channel), the TV channel lost great opportunities for development[2].

Sauer tries to enhance oppositional orientation of RBC TV. The Raut leaves the channel

"Sauer was going to reduce news broadcasting of RBC TV channel sharply — claimed an informed source of Lenta.ru in January, 2016. His idea was in doing one news release of times at three o'clock. Having reduced more than hundred people by RBC, it gathered for the saved means to organize a big oppositional political talk show, as on Channel One, only "on the contrary". For business of news TV channel it was a utopia, but Sauer drew"[3].

According to the source, Sauer was going to copy model of broadcasting, edition and editorial policy at Rain because considered this TV channel the best in Russia.

"But for RBC channel which only just became profitable it would turn back financial and media crash. The audience at Rain was at that time twenty times less than audience of RBC. To sharply reduce news broadcasting for benefit of a talk show would mean loss of the viewer and advertisers for RBC" — the interlocutor of Lenta.ru says.

However the president and at the same time the chairman of the board of directors of RBC Sauer, allegedly without having an economic case, announced reform of the channel. It provoked scandal. RBC-TV was left by the Chief Editor Andrey Reut supporting preserving of news broadcasting. Soon the owner - Mikhail Prokhorov interfered. The idea to create "Rain-2" was not to the taste to him, tells a source.

2014: Will lock broadcastings in Ukraine

In August, 2014 the National council of Ukraine concerning TV and broadcastings prohibited broadcast of RBC-TV TV channel.

"For the benefit of information security of the state the regulatory body recognized contents of the foreign program of RosBusinessConsulting-TV (RBC-TV) such that does not meet the requirements of the European convention on cross-border television and to the current legislation of Ukraine", says the press service of National council[4].

Allegedly, formed the basis for the solution the given monitoring which recorded violations of Articles 2.6 and 28 of the law of Ukraine of About Information and also Article 1 of the seventh European convention on cross-border television.

As the Chief Editor of RBC-TV Andrey Reut reported Lenta.ru, "we cannot confirm information on the solution of state bodies of Ukraine, but at the moment broadcast of RBC-TV to Ukraine continues". According to its information, the channel audience in Ukraine significantly grew recently.

Earlier in Ukraine already prohibited broadcast of the Russian TV channels, entered their number: "RTR Planet", "NTV World", Russia-24 and "TV Center-International". Their prohibition was explained mismatch of content to the local legislation.

2013

From an interview of the CEO of RBC Sergey Lavrukhin (January, 2013):

  • Growth of television at the end of 2012 — more than 30%. Now TV — in a disruptive format. We put in it much for the last few years: constructed a television complex, started new modern studio, actively we work with the content filling of the channel including on the weekend. For last two years we invested in it more than $10 million. In October, 2011 Alexander Lyubimov came to a position of the CEO of TV channel, and for this period it is possible to see quantitative and high-quality changes of TV channel. The audience of TV channel continuously grows: according to TNS, in 2010 — 2011 the average monthly audience was within 15 — 16 million people. In 2012 the audience reached 22.3 million people. In this direction it was much made and a lot of things still should be made.


  • Whether partnership of RBC and Bloomberg how there takes place process of negotiations on an occasion of creation of the second TV channel with financial analytics will take place?


  • In any way. Partnership with the western channel first of all helps in terms of positioning and marketing promotion, it becomes to reach the audience and advertisers. So do many media companies of different sectors. For example, Vedomosti with Wall Street Journal and Financial Times, RBC daily — with Handelsblatt. But it is necessary to understand that sometimes such partnership does not cost that money which you pay for it. Frequent it is just good marketing mix. And unfortunately, with Bloomberg it turns out quite so. The matter is that the brand of RBC in Russia is much stronger, than Bloomberg, and the audience watches RBC TV channel not because of five minutes of air in day of inclusions from the New York Stock Exchange and opinion of analysts on how the stock market which we receive from Bloomberg but because all content of the channel, all programs of our own production attract interest of the audience will move.

Andrey Reut is appointed the Chief Editor

Since August 1, 2013 Andrey Reut is appointed the Chief Editor of RBC-TV, having released Alexander Lyubimov who combined functions of the editor-in-chief with a position of the CEO of channel before from this duty.

According to Alexander Lyubimov, the Raut together with it "built edition in its current form" in this connection the decision on its appointment to this post was made. Other appointments, he noted, the Raut will be engaged independently after taking office. Lyubimov continues to hold a post of the CEO of RBC-TV.

2012: From the business channel to entertaining content

At the beginning of November, 2012 FAS recognized RBC TV channel federal.

In February, 2012 it became known that RBC-TV changes the concept — especially business channel owners will dilute with entertaining content. The company already submitted the change order of the mass media registration certificate. As representatives of channel told Marker, in a broadcasting schedule movies, sports programs and other entertainment events will appear. According to experts, this attempt to increase profitability of the channel which[5] leave much to be desired now[5].

"Now we started process of change of our mass media registration certificate. Earlier we had a narrow subject: economy, finance, business. Now we will expand subject of programs. There will be also a film filling of air. Also there will be a sports subject — the head of department of regional development of RBC-TV Irina Stankievich tells. — Time has come, to us it became close in that framework, we change. We are watched by the whole country, and it requires expansion of content".

Partners do not know channels about the preparing changes yet, but do not expect sharp change of course. "We with interest will observe for changes on RBC-TV, but still any information on change of the license to us did not arrive. The channel is obliged to provide us such information under the agreement" — told Marker in the press service of Tricolor TV operator whose packets of broadcasting include RBC-TV.

Judging by rough estimates of revenues of channel, change of a format can be the most effective step for increase in profitability. But at the same time will hardly help the channel partial changes of a format, changes should be cardinal, participants of the media market say.

"The RBC holding experienced difficulties in recent years, was unprofitable. By my estimates, revenue of RBC-TV makes $17 million a year. Besides that it exists since 2003, it is catastrophic digit. For comparison: the channel from audience shares of 5% has about $200 million revenue a year — the founder of REN-TV and the co-owner of the The New Times magazine Dmitry Lesnevsky explains to Marker. — I think that it is about replacing a format. Perhaps, they want to make mini-STS or mini-TB3, it will yield other financial result. For Prokhorov as for the owner of holding there are almost no risks. The billionaire is able to afford to be played with formats of the channel which share makes only 0.2%".
  • The president of JSC RBC Derk Sauer who held this post at the beginning of November, considers a basis of business of RBC the website and television. On the president's post Sauer also puts the task to return RBC the reputation and reputation which are impaired a little, in particular, by stories about the paid articles.

On December 17, 2012 it became known that RBC-TV by mutual consent abandoned several employees, including the Chief Editor and the program director that is connected with aiming of TV channel at creation of modern and high-quality content by efforts of a small amount of people, the CEO of RBC-TV Alexander Lyubimov reported RIA Novosti.

He added that as soon as the main goal of TV channel is achieved, he, most likely, and itself will leave RBC-TV.

Lyubimov confirmed that the Chief Editor of the channel Anna Uvarova, her first deputy Andrey Zharov, the program director Ada Grigorieva, the director of service of information Aleksandra Kudryavtseva, the director of the department of coordination and planning Margarita Bobrovskaya and the managing director of service of the cities Tamara Markova left RBC-TV, and at the same time noted that it occurred by mutual consent.

"For this year at us already about 70 people dismissed. We optimize the channel, I for this purpose here came, we enter new technologies which allow us to do the channel more effective and qualitative, but by smaller efforts. We just step by step were engaged in different pieces of the organization of teleproduction, the speech reached edition now" — Lyubimov told, having added that the TV channel shortly will have a new staff list.

"I need people who can surprise the viewer every day" — the CEO told, having noted that he does not want to spoil reputation to the employees who left TV channel and to them has no claims.

Lyubimov noted that process of resource optimization and staff reduction required improvement of technologies.

"Now at us absolutely other level, maybe, even the television center, best in the city, in terms of speed. Online there are news with very high speed how the event took place. We increased quality, changed the picture, our analytics appears in an hour after the events — we work quite so, and we consider that in it need of our audience" — Lyubimov told.

According to the CEO, today, "having at hand modern technologies, the modern liberal clever person is capable to create a lot of content".

He added that he is open for RBC for cooperation with those who already work in media, but feel, "that to it is what to tell, and it cannot reveal" — the CEO promised that the TV channel "precisely will notice it".

Lyubimov emphasized that he did not put restrictions on specific digit of the new state, and aimed at result.

"As soon as we stabilize a situation regarding obtaining result that I as the director accepted every minute of air, it is possible to say that it and is personnel stabilization further already. Production of media online, TV channel where constantly the analysis of economic, political events is not linear history, you cannot note it the number of people at once and most likely will be mistaken" — he told.

Lyubimov noted that RBC-TV in 2013 is going to activate already begun process of synergy with other resources of holding.

"We have already a number of solutions which allow to show online the analysis of the markets though for 20 though in 30 years — directly with iPad leaders can display it in 3D technology. RBC is the largest media on the Internet, number 1 on the volume of the developed information, examinations for business community. It and the different websites — rbc.ru, rbc-real estate and so on. Respectively, we will optimize these resources in such modern avant-garde solutions television" — the CEO told.

He noted that as soon as achieves the goal he, most likely, will leave TV channel.

"As soon as I will understand that I am satisfied that people who work here, they do it very great, I most likely will just leave. I in general work all life poproyektno" — Lyubimov told, having refused to call terms in which he is going to complete updating of TV channel. "I have a term, but I will not tell because terms can change depending on efficiency of my command" — he told[6].

2011

Growth of revenue by 24%

Revenue of RBC-TV grew by 9% in the fourth quarter and for 24% in 12 months 2011 prior to 606 million rubles. Growth of revenue of TV channel is connected with advertizing value addition (for 15% since the beginning of year) and also higher fillability of broadcasting time advertizing in comparison with 2010 (growth by 19%). Low growth rates of revenue in the fourth quarter are explained by the general situation in the Russian market of TV advertizing when certain advertisers removed television budgets because of macroeconomic uncertainty.

As a result of conversions in December, 2011 the maximum rating for all history of RBC-TV was reached: total number of the audience of the channel in Russia was 18.2 million people a month, having increased in a year by 13%.

Herman Kaplun (April, 2012)[7]: We calculate that the channel will come to profit in 2013. Now the television and the press are necessary to us for obtaining big budgets from our advertisers, but within five years everything will change. The Internet will remain the only significant advertizing carrier. Matter not only in, where bigger growth of audience, matter still in watching duration. People spend more and more time on the Internet and less time give to viewing the TV.

Lyubimov headed RBC TV

In November, 2011 the RBC holding belonging to Mikhail Prokhorov began to be updated actively. Then the journalist and the TV host Alexander Lyubimov was appointed to the position of the CEO of RBC-TV. He invited to the canal of the TV host Savik Shuster. According to RBC-TV, transfer which was conducted by Shuster managed to increase audience number by 1.5 times. Right after the appointment Lyubimov told Marker that the fad of RBC is a capability online quickly and very qualitatively to monitor all world markets. "It is the strongest brand in business community. It is strictly targetted on the most qualitative audience in Russia — for those 10–15% of audience which think freely which create new Russia … On RBC many real news — not scandalous, but really important for representatives of business community are created. It is, perhaps, the only channel which shows what really occurs in national economy" — he said[5].

For November, 2011 the audience of RBC-TV in Russia made more than 17 million viewers.
