2023: Creating a Second Office

At the end of March 2023, it became known about Yandex's decision to expand its presence in Serbia - the company is creating a second office in Belgrade. In this city, the Russian IT holding already employs about 1,500 employees, which makes the Serbian capital one of Yandex's largest hubs outside Russia.

"There were expectations that there would be 2,000 people soon," an informed source told Forbes. According to him, in this regard, according to him, the corporation needed to expand office space.

According to the newspaper, the company wants to turn the Serbian branch into the "main European office." It is clarified that earlier such plans belonged to the Italian hub of Yandex. By the end of March 2023, Yandex is actively hiring employees in an office in Belgrade. Now Yandex has opened about 170 vacancies in the country. Employees are needed in Yandex 360, Yandex Cloud, Alice and Smart Devices and others.

The company chose Serbia as the main hub to test the operation of business units there, including taxis, delivery and education to further scale in European countries when possible, says a Forbes source familiar with the company's plans in the country. Yandex.Taxi operates in Serbia today, in addition, the corporation is testing delivery for business in Belgrade.

In addition to Russia and Serbia, Yandex has offices in, Netherlands,, Armenia,, Turkey,, and Israel Belarus Kazakhstan Uzbekistan Kyrgyzstan other countries (by March 2023).

Yandex actively hires staff in its office in Serbia

Yandex is actively hiring employees at its office in Belgrade (Serbia), under which the company registered a representative office in June 2022. In July, Yandex said that it had co-working space in Belgrade for a long time, the Yandex Delivery team had already worked in it. And the opening of a representative office in Belgrade in the company was called the technical formality necessary for the work of the office. In 2022, the company plans to expand it, as well as some offices in other cities[2]

As of mid-September, the recruiting section on the website of Yandex itself lists Serbia as the second country after Russia in terms of the number of open vacancies - 59 vacancies from projects such as Yandex Cloud, search portal, Toloka, search, general services Yandex, Yandex 360, Yandex.Forms.

On external recruiting sites, Yandex vacancies with the offer of relocation to Belgrade, primarily related to its project, look the most noticeable Toloka.ai. The results of the project are used in machine learning, research, testing, technical support and content moderation.

In Toloka.ai with the relocation to Belgrade, the company requires different developers, cloud solution engineers, product marketing manager, community relations manager, financial planning, etc.

Some vacancies indicate that when moving to Belgrade, the company offers assistance with moving and adaptation, registration with a Serbian legal entity.

And one of Toloka.ai 's vacancies says that this project plans to migrate from Yandex data centers and other providers to an infrastructure independent of Yandex.

In addition to project personnel, you can, for example, find the Belgrade vacancies of Yandex personnel managers, the head of the international IT support group, etc.

After Serbia, Israel and Belarus are next in terms of the number of vacancies in the recruiting section on the Yandex website.

Creating a Company

On July 5, 2022, it became known about the opening of a Yandex representative office in Belgrade. The Russian company registered Yandex.Technologies Belgrade LLC, the founder of the company, Pyotr Popov, who at the end of April headed Yandex.Technologies LLC and the business group of search, advertising and cloud services.

According to the BBC Russian Service, citing the Serbian state register of enterprises, Yandex.Technologies Belgrade LLC was registered in early June 2022. Yandex noted that the opening of a representative office in Belgrade is "a technical formality necessary for the operation of the office."

The press service also recalled that Yandex has the opportunity to work in a flexible format - completely remotely, in mixed mode or from any office or co-working space in 20 cities of Russia and the world.

The Kommersant newspaper writes that before the Russian company had a large office in the capital of Serbia on loan. After the start of the military special operation of Russia in Ukraine, some of the employees moved there.

According to Nova Ekonomija, Serbia has not yet participated in anti-Russian sanctions, as a result of which many Russian companies began to open their representative offices in Belgrade and other cities of the country. According to the publication, as of May 2022, over 30 thousand Russians lived in Serbia.

In mid-April 2022, it was reported that Yandex could split into two companies - Russian and international. However, in a letter to investors, Yandex stressed that it does not plan large-scale relocation. The Bell edition reports that a group of assets may be separated from the Russian Yandex, which includes drones, a cloud service, as well as an educational project.[3]
