Biography

Was born on August 22, 1971 in Moscow.

In 1994 graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute of S. Ordzhonikidze in "Gyro instruments and navigation systems, navigation and stabilization". Along with study in MAI entered the Moscow State Institute of International Relations which finished in 1997 as "the international economic relations economist".

In 2005 was trained according to the MBA program at the Chicago university (USA).

1995-2001

Started a career in 1995 the expert of management of bank service in the Moscow department of the international auditing company Deloitte & Touche.

In 1997-1998 — the head of department of risk management of Rinako Plus investment company.

In November, 1999 passed into NIKoil broker company to a position of the chief financial officer.

In June, 2001 it is transferred to NIKoil Investment and Banking Group bank on a similar position. Directed the block of finance and accounting.

2002-2005

Since February, 2002 — the chief executive officer on management of finance. In August, 2002 became the vice chairman of the board of NIKoil Investment and Banking Group.

In 2005 worked at the vice president's position in the Rosgosstrakh holding company, the head of the block of life insurance.

2008-2010

In February, 2008 it was appointed to the position of the CEO of Rosgosstrakh-Life insurance company.

From April, 2009 to June, 2010 worked as the CEO of JSC VimpelCom.

Since September, 2010 worked in Sberbank Russia as the adviser to the president.

Since October, 2010 held a post of the board member, vice chairman of the board of Sberbank. Supervised operation of the Retail Business block.

2018: Leaving Sberbank

On November 13, 2018 the Kommersant newspaper with reference to own sources announced fast leaving of the deputy chairman of board, the curator of retail business of Sberbank Alexander Torbakhov credit institution. Leaving the company was caused it by own initiative - Torbakhov considered perspectives of the career development in Sberbank exhausted. For November 13, 2018 the top manager did not decide on new work location yet.

According to sources of Kommersant, Alexander Torbakhov expected that he will be able to receive a post of the first deputy chairman of board as a result the senior vice president got which in June, 2018, to the curator of risks Alexander Vedyakhin. Mister Vedyakhin paid much attention robotizations of processes, to artificial intelligence that was close to the head of Sberbank German Gref while Alexander Torbakhov adhered to more classical approach. Sberbank refrained from comments. It was not succeeded to communicate with the top manager of Kommersant.

The head of financial practice of "Morgan Hunt Ekzekyyutiv Serch" company Maria Yankovskaya drew the attention of the edition to a deposit of the top manager in "formation of the updated retail of Sberbank, in its transformation into actively selling network using many latest technologies". The head of the Council of directors of TopContact Artur Shamilov, in turn, noted that at Alexander Torbakhov in bank credit cards appeared, Sberbank online, digital services, "significantly changed departments and service quality".^[1]

2019: Promotion on a post of the head of committee on innovations and technologies

On January 29, 2019 the Russian   retailer X5 Retail Group  nominated Alexander Torbakhov as the candidate for entry into the structure of the supervisory board of group.

As reported on website X5, Torbakhov's candidacy was approved by the supervisory board of the company on January 25, 2019, and on May 10 it had to be considered at shareholder meeting. The former curator of retail business of Sberbank could become a Chairman of the Committee on innovations and technologies. 

Alexander Torbakhov was nominated as the candidate for entry into the structure of the supervisory board of X5 Retail Group

The analysis and representation to the supervisory board of recommendations about digital transformation, innovations and technologies had to become the main tasks of new structure, the company reported.

Torbakhov has considerable experience in the field of digital transformation which he got, in particular, in Sberbank where he held a position of the vice chairman of the board and head of the retail block until recently — explained the choice of the candidate for X5.

As noted Vedomosti, X5 in the fall of 2018 provided to investors  new strategy within which the company decided to adapt to retail of the next generation. Then the chief executive officer  of X5  Igor Shekhterman said that offline - retail will remain the largest market for group.

But gradually the consumer begins to select new methods of shopping, and X5 should adapt to it. So, in plans of the retailer there was a development of online sales, etc.^[2] infrastructures for e-commerce^[3]

In 2018 X5 Retail Group  opened X5 Lab shop laboratory for fast technical testing, studying and development of new technologies. In the premises, neighboring to a trading floor of Pyaterochka, were office laboratory for developers, service engineers, employees of support, analysts and IT specialists who can see testing directly in shop.

  The technologies tested in X5 Lab, including electronic price labels and cash desks of self-service, according to plans, had to save large sums of the company. Only one technology of tracking of electricity consumption and a climatic situation was designed to cut down expenses on power supply on 15%.

2020: CEO VimpelCom

VimpelCom (a brand Beeline) is appointed by the CEO Alexander Torbakhov. The new head of the company will start the responsibilities on April 6, 2020. Reported about it in VimpelCom on April 3, 2020.

Alexander Torbakhov will deliver the interests of clients in the center of future strategy Beeline.

On the CEO's post Torbakhov will submit to codirectors of the Veon group, head company "Beeline", Serdzhi Errero and Kaan Terziogl.

According to them, experience and leadership skills of Torbakhov will play a key role in transformation of operational and financial performance of VimpelCom.
