2011: Market Development Forecast to 2020

In 2020, the needs of the Russian economy for lithium-ion energy storage of a new type, according to the most conservative estimates, are estimated at $390 million, while the needs of 2011 amounted to $17 million. Such data were obtained by experts of the Liotech company.

According to the study, the global LIA market will show comparable growth rates: until 2020 it will grow by about 15 times, its volume will be $28.6 billion. The Russian market began to form quite recently, so it is much more modest in volume, but demonstrates better dynamics.

According to research, in Russia the main consumer of LIA will be the automotive industry, as electric transport will gain increasingly strong positions in the most densely populated regions of the country. In second place in terms of demand for LIA will be the electric power industry, where LIA-based drives with high efficiency (95-99%) can be used as network energy storage. Such energy storage is indispensable for covering the daily and seasonal peaks of electricity consumption, as well as as backup power supplies. Finally, the third most important consumer of LIA will be the industry of the Russian Federation.

The structure of LIA consumption in the world is identical to the Russian one: the main volume of batteries is produced for the automotive industry, then there is power and industry. It is also worth noting that both in Europe and in America, projects on the use of alternative power long been successfully implemented, which are as efficient as possible with lithium-ion battery-based drives.
