From 2015 to 2025, more than 19 million students in Turkey were forced to interrupt their university education due to economic difficulties. Such data was provided by the Council for Higher Education (YÖK) in response to a request from CHP deputy Aliye Timisi Ersever.
A particularly sharp increase in deductions occurred in 2022, when, against the background of the currency crisis and the rapid rise in prices, almost 4 million students left universities. The second largest "outflow" occurred in 2018 - then the university left more than 2 million students.
Since 2020 alone, the number of dropouts has exceeded 11 million.
By university:
- 16.9 million - from state universities,
- 2.1 million - from private,
- 57 thousand - from universities with funds.
By level of education:
- 8.3 million abandoned bachelor's degree,
- 7 million - college programs (2 years),
- 1.4 million - magistracy,
- 182 thousand - doctoral studies.
By age and gender:
- 8 million students were aged 20-25 years,
- 4.7 million - 25-30 years.

- 9.35 million - women.
