History

2021: Raising $70 million, including from Digital Horizon

On June 30, 2021 Digital Horizon , the VC fund announced that it had re-invested in the platform for streaming data Ably.

The company raised $70 million from Insight Partners, Dawn Capital, as well as current investors - Digital Horizon, MMC, Triple Point and Forward Partners.

By 2025, real-time data will account for 30% of all data in the world. Instant synchronous communication is needed, for example, when creating chats, tracking the location of couriers, sending notifications about the availability of goods or changing quotes, as well as for remote control over smart gadgets.

However, such communication with a large number of devices remains difficult and expensive. Ably solves this problem by providing developers with their cloud infrastructure.

The platform transmits trillions of messages per month to 250 million devices. Seamless data streaming is provided by 15 Ably data centers located around the world.

The total transition of the world to online has increased the burden on technological infrastructure. The amount of data needed to effectively interact with users has increased multiples. This situation became a serious challenge, and the Ably team handled it perfectly. And we believe that the existing trends will help the company implement its ambitious plans, "said Alan Waxman, founder and managing partner of the investment company Digital Horizon.

To ensure further growth, the company will increase infrastructure, strengthen its presence in the US market and double - from 65 to 125 people - will expand the main team working in the UK.

According to TechCrunch, every day people use various applications that send and extract data in real time. When a user sends a message in the messenger, edits the document together with someone, when he starts a video call or views financial data, he expects that the data will be sent and received in fractions of a second. The Ably platform helps ensure fast data transfer without delay. For example, the developer of the CRM system HubSpot, in which all products require real-time data processing, uses the platform to solve chat problems, Matthew O'Riordan, co-founder and CEO of Ably, told the publication.

Ably built a global network of data centers to route messages with maximum efficiency. Just as CDN providers try to minimize network delays, Ably routes messages so that they are transmitted instantly.

Venture fund Digital Horizon, which in June 2021 re-invested in Ably, invests in early stages in startups with working products and promising developments for the financial industry, e-commerce, education and corporate software.[1]
