2025: Demeter-Holding acquires 25% of Astrol
On January 10, 2025, it became known that Demetra-Holding"," one of the leading participants in the infrastructure sector in the grain market, Russia acquired a 25% stake in the Astrol shipping company. This is reported in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities (Unified State Register of Legal Entities). The deal is a key step in the implementation of a strategy for the development of transport and logistics infrastructure aimed at strengthening the export potential of the Russian agro-industrial complex.
Representatives of Demeter-Holding stressed that the acquisition is due to the intention to create a fleet of dry cargo ships under the Russian flag for the transportation of agricultural products. The Astrol fleet includes 10 RSD-59-type bulk carriers designed to transport grain crops and other agro-industrial products.
Demetra-Holding is a vertically integrated infrastructure holding that is actively developing a network of elevators, marine grain terminals and related logistics infrastructure. Among the key assets of the holding are the Novorossiysk Grain Terminal (100%), the Novorossiysk Bakery Plant (35.36%), as well as the Taman Grain Terminal Complex (50%).
In addition, the holding owns 50% minus one share in, United Grain Company JSC 100% of the shares of railway operators, Rusagrotrans"LP Trans," "" and Freight Company more than 75% of the share of a digital platform Smartseeds specializing in grain transportation. The structure also includes the trader Demeter Trading and several large elevators, including the Ipat Bakery Plant.
Earlier, representatives of the holding stated that the expansion of transport and logistics capacities is a priority for the company in the context of growing international competition in the agro-industrial market. The deal with Astrol emphasizes Demeter-Holding's desire to strengthen its position in the grain export segment.[1]
