2020: Start of venture fund for $100 million for investment in digital doubles

At the beginning of November, 2020 it became known that the software developer for design, construction and operation of infrastructure of Bentley Systems created Bentley iTwin Ventures venture fund for investment in digital doubles.

Bentley iTwin Ventures is a corporate venture fund with turnover $100 million which is focused on contribution of the innovation activity due to joint investment into startups and the developing companies which have a strategic importance for the purpose of Bentley Systems on development of infrastructure due to transition to digital technologies. The fund will direct investments into the transformational solutions for digital doubles supporting design, modeling, construction and/or operation of physical infrastructure. Bentley iTwin Ventures is interested in digital doubles for highways, the railroads, waterways, bridges, municipal services, etc., the press release says.

Bentley iTwin Ventures will invest in the companies at the initial and average stage of development which show capability to develop applications and solutions which use and expand possibilities of the digital double of infrastructure, especially in social jobs and utilities and also in industrial and resource sectors of infrastructure. The fund will invest in solutions which can use the Bentley iTwin platform and tool kits open source.

The CEO of Bentley Systems company Greg Bentley noted:

Our iTwin platform provides a scalable basis open source for technical and commercial innovations which will give the chance to a dynamic ecosystem creatively to combine and integrate what became possible now thanks to digital doubles for infrastructure components.

The corporate venture capital company Touchdown Ventures took part in creation of Bentley iTwin Ventures.^[1]
