2019: VMware purchased Carbon Black for $2.1 billion
On August 22, 2019 VMware announced acquisition of Carbon Black for $2.1 billion. Closing of the transaction is planned for the beginning of the 2020th.
Under the terms of the agreement, shareholders of Carbon Black will receive $26 of money from VMware for each security belonging to them. It is 14% higher than a quotation rate of the sold company ($22.75) to closing of the exchange on August 21, 2019.
After accomplishment of all formalities concerning Carbon Black sale, the CEO of the company Patrick Morley will head in VMware new division on release of solutions for information security. Some assets of Carbon Black will be transferred to this structure.
It is supposed that the combination of the solutions Carbon Black to such products of VMware as AppDefense, Workspace ONE, NSX and SecureState, will create a modern cloud platform for protection of any application in any cloud and on any device. This integrated offer will provide advanced detection of threats and the deep analysis of behavior of applications for blocking of the difficult attacks and acceleration of rapid response to threats, the press release says.[1]
According to Bloomberg, in addition to VMware, interest in purchase of Carbon Black was shown by Cisco and IBM.
