History
2021: Philips bought Vesper Medical
In mid-December 2021, Royal Philips announced the signing of an agreement to acquire Vesper Medical, a company engaged in the development of minimally invasive peripheral vascular devices. Through this transaction, the buyer will further expand Philips' portfolio of diagnostic and therapeutic devices through an advanced portfolio of venous stents for the treatment of deep vein diseases. The transaction is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2022.
Philips already has a large portfolio of peripheral vessels, including:
- Interventional 2D/3D real-time imaging combined with intravascular ultrasound catheters (IVUS) providing the imaging and guidance needed for optimal diagnosis and treatment;
- Peripheral atherectomy devices to remove blockages;
- Peripheral therapy devices including a Stellarex drug-coated balloon for the treatment of lesions;
- Implantable device to restore blood flow in small vessels of Tack limbs.
Through this portfolio, Philips offers physicians a comprehensive procedural solution for the treatment of peripheral artery disease (PDA).
The acquisition of Vesper Medical is another step towards our goal of innovating patient care with improved technology and expanding our growth in vascular therapy. Using our considerable experience in procedures, we see strong clinical synergy between Vesper Medical's innovative stenting solution and our existing peripheral vessel proposal. This pooled will help physicians make better decisions, guide, treat and validate outcomes during the procedure, thereby improving patient care, said Chris Landon, senior vice president and general manager of imaging-guided therapy devices at Philips. |
Vesper Medical will complement Philips' vein imaging proposal, add a vein stenting solution to address the underlying cause of chronic deep vein disease (HRV). The Vesper DUO Venous Stent System consists of venous stents designed to treat deep venous obstruction. This development to solve numerous anatomical problems of the deep venous system, the device provides doctors with a modular portfolio for individual therapy, restoration of venous blood flow and elimination of painful symptoms of deep venous disease for a wide range of patients suffering from chronic venous insufficiency. Upon completion of the transaction, Vesper Medical employees will become part of Philips Image-Guided Therapy.[1]
