Unfortunately, due to objective processes, due to changes, including the requirements that are rather seriously imposed on these facilities, due to the rise in the cost of equipment as a whole, which has inevitably happened over the past four years, we have a certain increase in prices - about 2.8 billion rubles, - said Nikolaev in a conversation with Mishustin.

2017: Testing of the radiofrequency ablation method in the treatment of cancer patients

On October 18, 2017, a method of radiofrequency ablation in the surgical treatment of cancer patients was tested at the Yakutsk Republican Oncological Dispensary. The method was tested using the Cool tip-E.[3]

Doctors of the oncological dispensary tested the device for radiofrequency treatment of cancer patients

Master class

A master class for Yakut oncology surgeons on the use of the radiofrequency ablation method was conducted by Vadim Vishnevsky, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Senior Clinical Support Specialist at Medtronic (Moscow). During surgery, a colon cancer patient had metastases to the liver removed. On the operating table, the patient was exposed to a tumor in the liver using radiofrequency ablation.

As Vadim Vishnevsky said, radiofrequency ablation is a fairly popular method of treatment used in oncology. Ablation from Latin translates as removal, but when using this device, which was brought to an introductory master class in Yakutsk, the tumor is not removed, the doctor explained. With the help of specific needle instruments, the current is introduced into the tumor focus. In this case, the tissues affected by the disease are heated and burned out. The resulting dead tissue (coagulate) is then organized into a scar. The intervention is performed through surgical wounds, laparoscopically or through the skin.

There are patients who are assigned to traditional surgeries, and some may be refused for various reasons. They are prescribed chemotherapy, radiation and other treatments. A number of such palliative treatments include radiofrequency ablation. It does not interfere with the use of any other type of therapy. The RF ablation method allows pointwise, without harm to healthy tissues, to remove the affected areas and thereby helps to prolong the life of that part of the cancer patients to whom other methods are contraindicated, - concluded Vadim Vishnevsky.

Radio frequency ablation

Radiofrequency ablation is a treatment method belonging to the category of interstitial thermotherapy. It is distinguished from other methods by good tolerance, a small number of complications, good survival of patients who are not shown radical surgical treatment. It is used in tumors of the liver, lungs, kidneys, mammary glands, bones, adrenal glands, thyroid gland, etc. Provides rapid treatment of tumors up to 5-7 cm in diameter.

Device

The RF ablation apparatus is non-stationary, no large spaces are needed to install it, it is easy to install and control. Which is also important, does not require special training of surgeons.

We have the opportunity to see in use an apparatus that is designed to remove metastases in the liver. I will immediately clarify that this is only a master class from a company that supplies such medical equipment. We don't have it yet. Of course, the presence of such a device would expand our capabilities in the treatment of cancer patients, including those patients who are contraindicated in radical surgery. Also, in general, to increase the survival rate of patients, since with radiofrequency exposure there is good tolerance and fewer complications, "said Tatyana Zharnikova, head of the surgical department of the Republican Oncological Dispensary.

According to doctors, it is quite possible that by 2019 its own RF apparatus will appear in the Republican Oncology Dispensary, and it will already be possible to carry out high-tech radio-frequency operations.
