Testing Non-IP Data Delivery Technology for IoT
On November 13, 2019, it became known that Beeline the IT company "" Jets Infosystems conducted the first Russia technology tests Non-IP Data Delivery (NIDD) for. Internet of Things This technology will extend the life cycle of IoT devices, protect the transmitted data and reduce the load on the operator's networks in order to connect millions of devices to the existing infrastructure as soon as possible.
Non-IP data technology is used to build infrastructure for the Internet of Things. IoT devices of this class are expected to have high energy efficiency. This will allow them to work for several years without replacing the battery. Due to the minimum requirements for the set of functionality on the device side, its cost and dimensions will be significantly less than the traditional IoT devices used as of November 2019 on mobile operator networks.
The Beeline and Jet Infosystems Joint Working Group tested the Quectel in the commercial Beeline IoT network. The functionality is deployed on the basis of the SCEF (Service Capabilities Exposure Function) network element from. Oracle Oracle SCEF functionality allows you to determine the location of a device in the operator's network without using/, GPSGLONASS as well as receive notifications about events, for example, activation or change of device location. Now the technology has been developed for commercial launch in partner projects. The use of NIDD technology will be interesting primarily to large corporate state and customers who would like to build a closed IoT infrastructure.
The advantages will be reduced power consumption and increased service time of subscriber devices, their miniaturization, reduced load on the operator's network, and, therefore, the ability to connect millions of NIDD devices without increasing the infrastructure. An additional plus of using NIDD is a higher degree of security. This type of communication is not subject to external influence, since devices do not receive IP addresses, and communication with them is allowed only for authorized subsystems within the operator network. Moreover, for SIM cards issued for NIDD, the subscriber telephone number (MSISDN) is not allocated. This allows Beeline to save numbering resources and protect IoT devices from possible fraud through calls, SMS and paid subscriptions.
Non-IP Data Delivery technology is the next step in the development of cellular IoT networks, allowing our customers to create isolated corporate wireless networks for industrial automation systems and smart urban solutions. noted Maxim Pavlov, the head of service on the Department of M2M M2M/IoT-products and IoT "VimpelCom"

The commercial service of connecting Non-IP devices using Oracle SCEF will allow the operator to expand the range of services provided and offer customers completely different types of services that, in terms of characteristics, exceed previous alternatives. For Beeline subscribers and IoT service users, this technology is interesting in terms of innovation, for example, in logistics, managing distributed infrastructure in large companies or building solutions for smart cities, said Denis Gudtsov, senior presale consultant for operator solutions at Jet Infosystems

Agreement with Energomera on the development of the Internet of Things in the field of electricity
On July 26, 2019, it became known that VimpelCom announced its readiness to develop the Internet of Things in the Russian electricity metering market. The company signed a cooperation agreement with the domestic manufacturer of electricity meters with the Energomera enterprise.
The agreement involves the promotion of promising technologies not only of the Internet of things, but also of industrial automation, data processing and machine learning. The companies note that this will become the driver of the implementation of certain provisions of national programs and projects in the field of the digital economy.
We welcome the technology partnership with Energomera. Internet of Things technologies in electricity accounting have great potential. Leading market companies need to join forces to pilot and implement the most promising technologies directly at the level of equipment manufacturers, |
The infrastructure for the pilot projects Beeline"" and "Energomera" will be an energy-efficient long-range network (Low-power Wide-area Network - LPWAN). It will provide standards (cellular communications NB-IoT Narrow Band Internet of Things) and eMTC (Enhanced Machine-Type Communication). Also, the projects will use mainly domestic equipment and. software Bilain noted that the implementation of joint projects will reduce the costs of maintaining the infrastructure of electric grid companies and change the approach to the electricity accounting system.
Our partnership with Energomera will create special products for domestic companies that will increase the efficiency of internal processes, optimize transaction costs and support digitalization programs for industrial enterprises, |
We are sure that the partnership of Energomer and VimpelCom companies will not only give the Russian electrotechnical market new products based on promising technologies, but will also become a serious incentive for the development of digitalization in the country, |
According to IDC, the volume of the Russian Internet of Things market in 2018 amounted to $3.67 billion. In the period from 2018 to 2022 investments in equipment, software, services and communications involved in creating Internet of Things solutions, annually will grow by an average of 18%, and amount to $7,61 billion at the end of 2022. According to IDC, it is the strategic initiatives of companies to integrate existing solutions and modern technologies that will be the key to the development of the Internet of Things in the country[1].
Activation in Moscow of the network based on NB-IoT technology
2018: Launch
On November 29, 2018, VimpelCom (Beeline brand) announced the launch of a pilot operation of the LTE hybrid network site, which supports two key mobile standards for Internet of Things technologies - NB-IoT and LTE Cat-M (eMTC, LTE-M). The first sector is represented at the Beeline commercial network in Moscow.
The LTE Cat-M standard is available simultaneously with NB-IoT (Narrow Band Internet of Things), which significantly expands the network's capabilities for connecting IoT technologies of different functionality, the company emphasized. LTE Cat-M networks differ from the standard NB-IoT higher throughput (client devices support data rates up to 1 Mbps), while having the same advantages: low power consumption, high penetration, and an increased coverage area.
In addition, LTE Cat-M devices have mobility, which makes it possible, taking into account the characteristics of speed, to introduce not only telemetry and other low-speed services, as was possible with NB-IoT, but also to serve moving objects, as well as Internet of Things services in buildings and underground structures. The technology allows you to develop and test IoT solutions in the field of logistics, monitoring, video surveillance.
World leaders in the telecommunications industry do not stop at launching NB-IoT - this is not the only standard of the Internet of Things segment. According to the GSMA report for September 2018, there are 66 commercial IoT networks in the world, of which 14 networks support LTE Cat-M technology, which develops in parallel with NB-IoT. In addition, due to mobility and high speed parameters, the LTE Cat-M standard can be applied to implement use-cases characteristic of 4G +/5G networks. At the same time, the technology can be activated on LTE networks simultaneously with NB-IoT, which gives more opportunities for the implementation of technological client cases in the near future, commented on the launch of the hybrid network Sergey Knyshev, director of infrastructure development at VimpelCom. |
The company also added that the launch of the hybrid section of the NB-IoT and LTE Cat-M network on the Beeline commercial network was the first step in activating technology throughout Russia.
