Launch of the third stage of the data center in the Tver region

RTK-DPC commissioned the third stage of the Udomlya Data Processing Center (DPC), investments in the construction of which amounted to 2 billion rubles. RTK-DPC announced this on June 27, 2025.

In the third stage of the data center there are four machine rooms and 820 racks with a capacity of 5.4 kW each. Design began at the end of 2023, comprehensive tests were completed in May 2025, and the site was put into operation in June 2025.

"Udomlya-3" is designed in accordance with the reliability requirements of Tier III level. Uninterrupted power supply to the IT infrastructure is provided by six autonomous diesel-generator plants with a capacity of 1,800 kW with redundancy along two independent power supply beams. The cold supply system is made according to the ring scheme, and the total cooling capacity of the air conditioners for each machine room is 1,272 kW.

Launch of the third stage of the data center for 2 billion rubles

On June 27, 2025, RTK-DPC, part of Rostelecom, announced the commissioning of the third stage of the Udomlya data center. Investments in the project amounted to 2 billion rubles.

The new data center is located in the Tver region. It consists of four machine rooms that house a total of 820 5.4 kW racks each. The data center corresponds to the Tier III reliability level. This means that repairs and upgrades are possible without disconnecting the equipment and stopping the operation of the data center. Such facilities have two power inputs, and the active equipment is redundant according to the N + 1 scheme. Fault tolerance is 99,982%, that is, downtime is no more than 1.6 hour per year.

Rostelecom launched the Udomlya-3 data center in the Tver region for 2 billion rubles

The Udomlya-3 data center is equipped with an uninterruptible power supply system with six autonomous diesel generator sets with a capacity of 1800 kW. The cold supply system is made according to the ring scheme: the total cooling capacity of the air conditioners for each machine room is 1272 kW.

"The Udomlya data center cluster is rapidly developing, despite its remote location. At the moment, RTK-DPC has the resources to quickly expand the cluster and complete the 4th and 5th queues. On the territory of the data center there are already ready-made structures with supplied capacities, and the implementation of standard projects for the construction of 1640 racks is possible in 12 months, "says Konstantin Stepanov, director of data center development at RTK-DPC.

According to him, the bulk of the capacity of the Udomlya-3 data center was rented at the time of launch. The project turned out to be in maximum demand from customers against the background of high demand for data center services in Russia. The growth of the market is facilitated by digital transformation, the rapid introduction of AI and the transfer of workloads to the cloud.[1]

2022: Launch of an additional four halls with 800 racks with a capacity of 40 MW

On February 15, 2022, the Rostelecom DPC group of companies announced the launch of the second stage of the Udomlya megaDPC. Additional capacity at the site in the Tver region is already available for customers.

The second stage of the data center is four halls with 800 racks with a total capacity of 8 MW. Especially for this project, Rostelecom DPC built a fiber-optic route to ensure the best network connectivity. Thanks to this network architecture, customers can create geographically distributed solutions at several sites, for example, with the participation of the company's data centers in Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as use the services of other data centers without additional difficulties.

This data center queue has been built to meet the reliability requirements of Tier III. This means that all elements of the engineering infrastructure are reserved: (power and cold supply, telecommunication routes, fire extinguishing and monitoring systems. Thus, the Udomlya data center can ensure the uninterrupted operation of the IT services located in it, even during repair work.

Data center customers will have access to a single set of services presented at all sites of the Rostelecom DPC geo-distributed network: placement of server equipment (colocation), cloud infrastructure (Infrastructure-as-a-Service, IaaS) and services, telecom services, backup and DR1, information security services and many others.

The high demand for the capacity of our Udomla site confirms that customers appreciated all the growth opportunities at the computing power in the Udomlya megaData Center, although they were initially restrained in relation to the site remote from Moscow. The first stage is fully filled, 50% of the second is also reserved by clients, - said Yuri Samoilov, First Deputy General Director of Rostelecom DPC, General Director of DataLine. The project involves expanding to five queues with a total capacity of 4,000 racks. The construction of the third module with 800 racks will be launched after the implementation of all the capacities of the current stage.

2019: Rostelecom puts Udomlya data center into commercial operation

Rostelecom DPC (a subsidiary of Rostelecom) put into commercial operation in July 2019 the Udomlya data processing center (DPC), located near the Kalinin nuclear power plant in the Tver region.

The construction of a data center at the Kalinin NPP site is a joint project of Rostelecom and Rosenergoatom. In accordance with the agreement, Rosenergoatom built and leased buildings to Rostelecom for a period of 30 years. The operator was engaged in the design and creation of engineering infrastructure in accordance with its own requirements for the reliability and stability of the data center.

The design capacity of the Udomlya data center is 4 thousand racks; currently, modules with a total capacity of 800 racks are ready for placement of customer equipment. In the commissioned data center, the placement of client equipment has already begun.

"The Udomlya data center is the largest project in our strategy for creating a national geo-distributed network of data centers. The partnership with Rosenergoatom made it possible to create a unique facility in terms of security, scale, electricity tariffs. The demand for cloud services is growing rapidly: Rostelecom's revenue from data center services is increasing by 30% year-on-year. The largest data center in Russia will meet the rapidly growing demand of state and corporate customers on attractive market conditions. We offer a full-fledged cloud service: the supplier creates and operates the computing infrastructure on its own, providing the client with a ready-made solution with a guaranteed level of quality, "said Pavel Kaplunov, vice president of cloud services at Rostelecom, general director of Rostelecom DPC.

Rostelecom's data center at the Kalinin NPP site is the largest project in Russia and one of the largest in Europe. The first stage is three buildings for accommodating equipment and an administrative and office building, the power supplied is 48 MW. The area of each building is almost 11.5 thousand square meters.

The total design capacity of the first stage of the data center in Udomla is 4.8 thousand, of which 4 thousand racks will be located in the Udomlya data center of the Rostelecom group, and 800 racks - in the Kalininsky data center of the Rosenergoatom concern.

2018: Finalization of design documentation

On September 6, 2018, the company DataDome announced the completion of developments project documentation for the operator DPC SafeData , a subsidiary of "." Rostelecom Data center will appear in the city of Udomlya. Tver region Work started in October 2017 was completed in May 2018.

Expanding the application of high technologies requires consolidation of computing resources and information storage, which significantly reduces the cost of maintaining networks. This is especially important for large corporations, including Rostelecom, noted in DataDome.

Technical characteristics of the data center developed for SafeData:

  • DPC installed capacity - 8 MVA;
  • DPC area - 6000 m2.
  • number of server racks - 820;
  • the planned consolidated rating of the data center - Tier III;
