Thus, companies reduce labor costs and receive an established supply system: exactly on time and at minimal prices.
With Ariba Procurement solutions, the company can automate the planning, preparation and execution of any procurement procedures. Cloudy SAP The Ariba service gives companies all the benefits of cloud technology - agility, flexibility and convenience. As a result, a unified purchasing base, the ability to collect deep analytics, automate the entire process and quickly generate reporting, as well as reduce errors and delays.
2022: Russian companies are looking for alternatives to SAP Ariba for procurement management
SAP solutions are used by many large companies to automate supplier interaction processes in Russia. Some experts in the market with whom TAdviser spoke give an estimate - over 80% of large companies. After the German vendor stopped selling its products in Russia amid the conflict in Ukraine and began to curtail the local cloud data center, where SAP Ariba was based, IT suppliers record an increase in demand for local products for procurement management. At the same time, customers are in no hurry to start the transition, carefully choosing the available options.
In Norbitol"" (included in the GC) "Lanit" told TAdviser that they record an increase in interest in Russian developments in the field of procurement automation.
Many of our clients came to us for consulting. The business is most interested in tools that support "end-to-end" procurement and supply automation integrated with internal processes (production, inventory, sales, etc.) and systems (ERP, WMS, document management, project management, etc.). In addition, companies need functionality that will allow them to effectively use external services and solutions for convenient interaction with the market and suppliers (electronic platforms, supplier portals, information services, etc.), says Denis Smirnov, head of the SRM solutions competence center at Norbit. |
Back in May, IBS saw an increase in interest in Russian products and say that customers continue to work out alternative solutions. It has not yet come to the transition to new platforms, the company told TAdviser in July.
Among the industries where customers are interested in alternatives to SAP Ariba, market players name the energy sector, metallurgy, petrochemicals, construction.
Among the companies that at different times reported the use of SAP Ariba in one form or another to automate supplier relationship management, Uralkali, Polyus, Biocad, NLMK, Segezha Group, EVRAZ, Uralchem, Kaspersky Lab, Yandex, Komus, Megapolis Group and many others.
Some of them refused to use SAP Ariba long before February 2022. For example, EVRAZ. It stopped using this service back in 2020 and made its own EVRAZ Marketplace online store for employees of the company's enterprises based on 1C: Bitrix and 1C: ERP. EVRAZ told TAdviser that their new solution made it possible to significantly speed up the purchase and delivery of goods (for most goods - up to 48 hours) and optimize logistics. And since 2022, EVRAZ Marketplace has begun to provide services to 3 persons, and this area is planned to be developed.
SAP Ariba is delivered on a cloud platform. In Russia, it was based in the local SAP data center, from which various cloud services were provided to local customers. Earlier, against the background of the curtailment of its business and data center in Russia, SAP offered Russian customers who did not fall under sanctions a choice - either to pick up data from SAP cloud storage, delete it or transfer it to date centers outside the Russian Federation.
The last option eventually resorted to some Russian SAP Ariba users.
Everything is normal with us. We work, support works. Cloud services were not turned off, but transferred to European data centers, TAdviser was told in Segezha Group. |
According to TAdviser, as of June-July, SAP Ariba also continues to be used, for example, Yandex, Kaspersky Lab, Polyus.
IBS notes that in cases with data transfer to European data centers, it is worth assessing the risks comprehensively for both the customer and their suppliers, who should also be able to access SAP Ariba.
Some Russian customers have taken advantage of the SAP offer and moved their data to data centers outside Russia and are still using SAP Ariba. However, this is rather a temporary solution, an opportunity to take a break for thoughtful selection of optimal domestic software and a leisurely transition to it, - Denis Smirnov from Norbit is sure. |
As for Russian analogues, the market says that SAP Ariba does not provide direct compliance with any domestic solution. In addition to automating the entire procurement process and generating the necessary supporting documentation at all stages, SAP Ariba also provides access to the Ariba Business Network with millions of trading partners from 190 countries worldwide. According to SAP, as of mid-2021, there were more than 110 thousand suppliers from Russia and the CIS in the business network.
At the same time, among Russian solutions, there are quite enough suitable options for automating a wide range of processes and tasks within the framework of procurement activities and interaction with suppliers, Denis Smirnov believes. This is primarily due to the state regulation of the 2010s. Norbit expert considers it promising to switch from SAP Ariba to new solutions based on low-code and quickly connect additional services: this significantly reduces the time and labor required to launch and further develop the system, as well as reduces the risks of dependence on a specific product or vendor.
The practice of recent years shows that to automate various functional blocks, an integrated set of solutions and services is used, which allows you to most effectively solve the tasks and not develop all innovative capabilities within one product. In terms of procurement, for such an integrated approach, an SRM platform is used, which has an average of four to ten integrations with other systems - electronic platforms, ERP systems, NSI management systems, EDMS, external information resources, EDS services, etc., - says the head of the competence center of SRM solutions "Norbit." |
IBS believes that as part of import substitution, an analogue of SAP Ariba can be called solutions based on domestic ERP systems and ETPs (electronic trading platforms). However, it is necessary to take into account the specifics of the customer, the list and features of automated business processes, the requirements of the Federal Law on Procurement and much more.
For example, in SAP Ariba in the Russian market, the greatest demand was for automating the process of finding and selecting a supplier in SAP Ariba Sourcing. In this case, the 1C, SAP ERP systems already used by customers can also be improved in conjunction with Russian ETPs (B2B-center, TEK-Torg, Fabricant, etc.) can become a full-fledged analogue of SAP Ariba[1].
The duration and budget of migration projects depends on the customer's process, functional, and organizational scope. Minimum implementation dates start from 4-6 months.
2020: Free access for Russian exporters
On April 9, 2020, SAP CIS announced that access to the SAP Ariba business network until May 10, 2020 will be free for Russian exporters. Companies can quickly place requests for the purchase of necessary goods, and suppliers can quickly respond to requests and deliver. This will help restore the supply chains disrupted by the pandemic, allow buyers and suppliers to interact with each other quickly and effectively, and minimize disruption caused by shipment delays, performance problems and increased consumer demand during the crisis.
Thanks to the cooperation between REC and SAP, as of April 2020, more than 2,000 Russian exporters providing various services and goods, the most popular of them, have already been registered in the SAP Ariba system - professional and administrative services, computer equipment and software, equipment for handling, air conditioning and storage, construction materials, production and processing equipment, paper, packaging and containers, as well as medical and laboratory equipment, in particular, protective equipment and ventilators.
Measures to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic have "broken" all the basic principles on which world trade is built in the traditional sense. Business trips, international exhibitions, face-to-face negotiations with potential partners have become impossible. Therefore, the Russian Export Center has intensified its work in the direction of Internet trade. Services and platforms such as SAP Ariba allow you to transfer many export-related processes to an online format. And in many ways, making them transparent, easier and more efficient than offline. I am sure that modern realities will force us all to revise our business practices and push business to change, noted Alexey Kozhevnikov, Vice President of JSC "Russian Export Center"

In 2019, the Russian Export Center and SAP announced plans for cooperation in several areas. The companies focused on improving the level of financial literacy and technical readiness of Russian specialists, as well as on finding additional opportunities and business partners in the global market using the SAP Ariba business network, training seminars for Russian exporters were held during the year.
It is very important to give businesses simple and convenient tools that will help restore the effectiveness of processes disrupted by the pandemic. The capabilities of SAP Ariba, just allow you to do this, find a buyer for any product, medical laboratory equipment is especially relevant. So, only half an hour was required by the buyer of one of the New York hospitals to purchase 500 beds from a new supplier for them, since their ordinary contractors had the goods completely sold out, said Andrey Filatov, CEO of SAP CIS
