In Primorye, a site was identified for the construction of a center in which examinations by positron emission tomography (PET) will be carried out. This is an effective way to diagnose cancer. This was announced by the Governor of the region Oleg Kozhemyako on October 22, 2021.

The construction of the PET center will unfold on the territory next to the regional oncological dispensary, located at: Vladivostok, 57a Russkaya Street. As specified in the regional Ministry of Health, the budget of Primorye provides for 130 million rubles for the purchase of a PET scanner and another 20 million for the preparation of premises. Equipment commissioning is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022.

In addition, a cyclotron-radiochemical complex will be located on the territory of the medical institution, allowing the production of four main isotopes on the spot - they are necessary for the diagnosis of oncological diseases using a PET scanner. As of October 2021, radiopharmaceuticals are brought to Vladivostok from Khabarovsk. This causes additional difficulties due to special delivery and storage requirements, as well as waiting for the deadlines that are required for delivery. After all, often when treating cancer patients, they are expensive every day, and time is extended for weeks.

The need for PET diagnostics in Primorye is very high. About 4-4.5 thousand studies are conducted annually in the region.

As of October 2021, residents of the region undergo PET diagnostics based on isotopes, which are delivered to Vladivostok from Khabarovsk. The life of radiopharmaceuticals is several hours, so it is important that there is a cyclotron next to the oncologic dispensary for their production. Such construction is supposed at the expense of investment means, - emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister - the minister of the zdravookhraneniyaprimorsky region Anastasia Hudchenko.

She also stressed that this equipment will reduce the waiting time for the procedure. At the same time, Primorye residents will be able to pass it according to the compulsory medical insurance policy in the direction of the doctor.

It was a long job. For about two years, we chose the place of installation of the cyclotron, PET equipment. In accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation that everything should be in a single complex, it was decided to place a cyclotron next to the oncological dispensary. There is an appropriate platform with engineering communications. And most importantly, all the necessary specialists are available, "said Oleg Kozhemyako.

The head of the region also noted that in the future it is planned to build a surgical building so that the Primorsky regional oncological dispensary meets all the requirements.

We will install a cyclotron directly for the production of components, diagnostics, and two PET centers will work. We have already provided funding. The partner is Rosatom. Within two to three years, we must implement this project. In addition, it is planned to deal with the surgical corps. And then about 6 thousand cancer patients will receive high-quality diagnostics and high-quality treatment, "said Oleg Kozhemyako[1].
