Launch in Moscow of a "pilot" for the collection of electronic waste

Corporation "Ecopolis" and LLC "GK SET" launched in Moscow a pilot project on the collection of electronic waste. On September 2, 2021, in the People's Park "Kozhukhovo" (Lobanova St., d. 10), a stationary reception point for the environmental disposal of faulty and outdated electrical appliances and household appliances was opened. Electronic waste will be collected during September.

During the action, you can hand over: system blocks, laptops, monitors, TVs, keyboards, printers, scanners, vacuum cleaners, hairdryers, irons, teapots, game consoles, phones, players, as well as any other electronics and household appliances. Batteries, light bulbs, cartridges, discs and cassettes are not accepted as part of the action.

All assembled equipment will be guaranteed to be processed into secondary raw materials, as it will go to Ecopolis Corporation, a complex of plants for the production of secondary materials from waste electronic and electrical equipment (EEA). Technologies of Ecopolis Corporation allow to process up to 95% of all components of electronic scrap into high-quality secondary raw materials. At the same time, the plants themselves do not have a harmful impact on the environment due to the closed water supply system and modern gas treatment equipment.

"The activity of the corporation is very important for the city, because its technologies allow to process up to 95% of all components of electronic scrap into high-quality secondary raw materials. We support such companies in every way. One of the plants of the corporation - Ecoplast - is a resident of the capital's special economic zone Technopolis Moscow, which allows you to use an extensive list of preferences and tax benefits. In addition, this spring, the company sent us an initiative to implement a public-private partnership project. The investor proposed to create points for collecting equipment for its further processing at city facilities. The possibility of implementing such a project is being considered, "said Alexander Prokhorov, head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy of Moscow.

Volunteers are on duty at the reception point, who advise Muscovites on the disposal of the equipment they handed over, and also talk about why it is important to recycle electronic waste, and not throw it into landfills.

"The availability of infrastructure for separate waste collection is one of the main conditions for high-quality processing, especially high-tech ones such as electronics processing. In our country, the population accounts for up to 70% of all waste of electronic and electrical equipment, which contains both toxic substances and useful materials. At the same time, the issue of centralized collection of this type of waste from the population has not been resolved. Moreover, only a small number of people realize the need for environmental processing of the EEA. Therefore, our joint with OOO GK SET solves not only infrastructure problems, but also is a tool for creating an understanding among Muscovites of the importance and need for environmental recycling of the OEO. It is an integrated approach that is important here, because the development of an ecological habit among the population to properly dispose of the equipment is possible only if there are convenient reception points, "said Ekaterina Radionova, Deputy General Director of Ecopolis Corporation.

PPP Agreement in the Field of Electronic Waste Management in Moscow

May 13, 2021 it became known about the first agreement of public-private partnership in the field of electronic waste management in Moscow. The creation of the relevant infrastructure was entrusted to Ecopolis Corporation.

According to the head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy of Moscow, Alexander Prokhorov, whose words are quoted by the press service of the department, all collected and sorted equipment for disposal will go to the Ecotechnprom plant, which is part of Ecopolis Corporation. After processing, the resulting products - metals and plastics - will be sent to industrial enterprises in Moscow, including the Ecoplast plant, localized in the Technopolice Moscow special economic zone and also part of the corporation.

Moscow ordered infrastructure for the collection of electronic waste

According to Prokhorov, the implementation of the project will allow Moscow to adopt the best world experience in the disposal of electronic waste and, accordingly, reduce the adverse impact on the environment.

The agreement aims to build a closed cycle economy in Moscow, said Maxim Lobanov, CEO of Ecopolis Corporation.
