2022: The ability to link a virtual wallet to a loyalty card

SPAR Kaliningrad offers users of the Friends Club mobile application a way to speed up and simplify payment for purchases at the checkout. Now in the application you can link a virtual wallet to the buyer's loyalty card. The cashier will only need to scan one QR code to apply coupons, discounts or bonuses to the check - and accept the payment. CSI announced this on July 11, 2022.

More than 80% of network buyers participate in a loyalty program using plastic cards or the Friends Club mobile application. As of July 2022, more than 50% of checks are made from the application using a virtual card, an increase of up to 60% is expected within six months.

The convenience of the presented method is that the buyer does not need additional manipulations with a bank card and entering a PIN code - you only need to confirm in advance in your application the possibility of payment by default and have funds on your virtual wallet. The cashier scans the QR code, the Set Retail cash system reads the loyalty card and calculates discounts, the cashier, with the verbal consent of the buyer, applies coupons, discounts or bonuses in the check - and the payment is automatically made from the wallet. Buyers get a fast payment method: it is twice as fast as the usual payment scenario for SBP, 55% faster than paying in cash and 15% faster than paying with a bank card.

The revision was made specifically for SPAR Kaliningrad - for this, the specialists of the retailer and CSI have integrated several systems: Set Retail, the Manzana Loyalty system connected to Set Retail through an external plugin, the Friends Club mobile application and the SmartPay payment service. Due to this payment technology based on the Fast Payment System (FPS) implemented as part of the SmartPay service, the retailer significantly saves on fees for accepting payment compared to the acquiring commission. Payment from the app is also available at CSI K self-service checkouts in SPAR stores.

Equipping convenience stores with CSI K self-service checkouts

SPAR Kaliningrad is developing a self-service format in convenience stores. To complete small self-service islands, the retailer chose CSI K cash registers and in the spring of 2021 began circulation to the chain's stores. This was announced on June 10, 2021 by CSI.

SPAR Kaliningrad is the first company in the region that began introducing self-service technologies in stores back in 2014. The retailer continues to develop this direction - and not only in large stores, but also from 2021 in small ones, in the "at home" format. As a rule, in such stores there are only 2-3 cash desks, customers have only a few goods in the basket - and it is in this situation that during the "peak hours" SCO cash desks can significantly speed up the purchase and increase the passability of the cash line.

Such stores do not always have a lot of free space, so it is important that the self-service island is compact and the equipment is not as expensive as the classic "big" ticket offices. SCO"SPAR Kaliningrad" considered several options and settled on the cash desks of self-service CSI K. The ready integration of the cash desks with ERP the -system, cash solution Set Retail and, loyalty system Manzana which it uses, retailer became an additional argument.

First, "SPAR Kaliningrad" tested a sample cash register in its office, after which it began replication. As of June 10, 4 stores are equipped with 2-3 payment stations in each, 4-5 more outlets are planned.

The planned share of buyers switching to independent purchases is 50%. At the end of April, it reached 20% and continues to grow, the company noted. The ticket office supports a basic in-store purchase scenario, as well as work in the cafe area, when the buyer can select items from the menu on the screen, and not just scan them with a scanner.

In 9 Spar stores in Kaliningrad - zones with self-service cash desks

As of the beginning of 2021, the SPAR chain of stores in Kaliningrad and the region is 56 stores, in 9 of which there are zones with self-service cash desks. According to the retailer, they are preferred by more than 50% of buyers, and on peak days - up to 70%.

In large stores, SPAR including Inter SPAR in the Baltia Mall shopping center - 6 cash desks on the self-service island. There are 36 cash desks for independent purchases in the network. The retailer uses equipment, and since Diebold Nixdorf the end of 2020 has been testing payment station K. In 2021, SPAR Kaliningrad plans to open 10 more stores and continue to form the look of a modern store with the introduction of Scan & Go self-scanning technology.
