It is known that more powerful accumulator will allow to increase a stock of the course of electric vehicles. But whether the comparable effect will be able to show the new power unit? In case of application of a system of an axial electric actuator of e-axle from Bosch the answer – will be able. Feature of a system of Bosch is that it integrates three components of the power unit. In this case the engine, power electronics and transmission are united in one compact device which sets a car axis in motion. Thanks to it the new Bosch e-axle power unit not only is more effective in work, but also is more available at the price.

The start of mass production is planned for 2019. Bosch was created by an adaptive concept of this installation and guarantees that each car maker will receive the convenient solution which is easy for integrating into production process.

Up to 6000 Nanometers of a torsional moment and 300 kW of power

Main advantage of a system of an axial electric actuator of e-axle is a simplicity of settings and a possibility of application on different types of vehicles. So, the power unit which is completely configured under car maker will arrive directly on a pipeline assembly line.

Depending on the selected configuration the power unit develops the power from 50 to 300 kW (that is approximately equivalent to from 70 to 400 hp) and therefore it is compatible to the large equipment, such as completely electrified trucks. The torsional moment on an axis of the vehicle can reach from 1,000 to 6,000 Nanometers. It is possible to place the electric drive both on a lobby, and on a back axis. The power unit developing 150 kW (~ 200 hp) capacities, weighs only 90 kg that it is much easier in comparison with the mass of components, collected separately. Distinctive feature of a system of an axial electric actuator of Bosch is the high performance and a possibility of long work at the maximum return. In other words, e-axle can quicker accelerate the car and more long time will allow it to move at high speeds. To reach it, Bosch not only grouped units in a uniform node, but also improved the engine and components of power electronics.

What does the system of an axial electric actuator of more effective in comparison with the normal electrical power unit?

The high efficiency of each component is a pacing factor for the corresponding performance of all system. So, Bosch has an advantage in the form of long-term experience in the market. Besides, losses are minimized by reduction of number of interfaces and components, such as high-voltage cables, connectors and cooling devices. One more advantage of Bosch – a possibility of combination of separate components for achievement of optimal results. In case of the system of an axial electric actuator e-axle not only the efficiency increases, but also such characteristics as acoustic comfort and electromagnetic compatibility improve.

When will the system of an axial electric actuator e-axle appear in the market?

Bosch releases the systems of an axial electric actuator since 2012 (for example, for the Peugeot 3008 and Fiat 500e models), but power electronics was not integrated into them completely. At present Bosch is at a stage of development of new generation of the e-axle system, constantly contacting to car makers worldwide. Samples of a system are already ready to use and at the moment pass test. The beginning of production is planned for 2019.

In what cars will this system be used?

The system of an axial electric actuator Bosch e-axle can be applied in any types of vehicles. In hybrid and electric cars installation of the electric drive both on a lobby, and on a back axis is possible. Bosch e-axle can be applied to any vehicles with a total weight up to 7.5 t – both for utility trucks, and for passenger cars.

Why the system of an axial electric actuator e-axle is more available in comparison with normal power units which are already used in electric vehicles?

The system of an axial electric actuator e-axle integrates power electronics, the electric motor and transmission in one device. Thus, the new electric power unit does without use of thick and expensive copper connection cables. The cooling system can be simplified. There is no need for the additional transferring transmission elements. All this reduces the cost of the electrical unit and increases its efficiency. The arrangement of transmission near the engine allows to save a valuable arrangement space – an important factor in automotive industry.
