2020: Start of the program

In August, 2020 announced Bentley Motors start of the Octopus program (it is an abbreviation which is decrypted as Optimised Components, Test and simulatiOn, toolkits for Powertrains which integrate Ultra high-speed motor Solutions), within which the producer of bonus machines was engaged in development of cheap engines for electric vehicles.

The project is supposed development of new generation of electric motors on permanent magnets in which rare-earth elements will not be used. The last strongly udorazhivat electric motors and do them by less eco-friendly as processing of such equipment requires big investments.

Within the company is going to create alternative technology of creation of such magnets in three years and also  to develop own electric drives connecting two motors and a reducer which can be set directly on a car axis.

The research project supported the British government on behalf of Management on vehicles with the low level of emissions (OLEV). In addition to Bentley, eight more companies will participate in the project.

Partners aimed to create engines which do not require copper windings and provide packaging which is not too expensive to assembly and also is completely processed at the end of service life.
