Launch of one of the largest data centers in the Russian Federation in St. Petersburg

At the end of May 2021, the official opening of the new Rostelecom data center in St. Petersburg took place. He is called in the company one of the largest data centers in Russia.

The data center is located in the Kalinin district of St. Petersburg between Zhukov and Chugunnaya streets. The facility has a total capacity of 800 stalls and a capacity of 7400 kW, covering an area of more than 4 thousand square meters. m

To create the data center, its own building was designed and built that meets the requirements of the Tier III standard. As stated in Rostelecom, specialized engineering infrastructure provides high-quality energy and cold supply to the data center premises. All elements of infrastructure systems are reserved, power inputs and telecommunication routes pass by independent routes to ensure uninterrupted operation of equipment and communication with the network.

The data center will house the most sensitive data that requires a special security regime, as well as those that need to be quickly moved to another place, processed and returned back (or made a hot backup, like electronic document management systems). Backups in case of system failure, as explained by the vice-governor of the city Stanislav Kazarin, will be located on external resources.

Rostelecom said that the new data center will form a cluster in the northwestern region, where Rostelecom-data center competencies will be concentrated in the following areas: telecom, data transfer, cloud services and the operation of data centers. By the end of May 2021, about 50 highly qualified engineers are employed here, and many new jobs will be created in the near future.

The new data processing center in St. Petersburg will expand Rostelecom's geo-distributed network of data centers and become a support site in the North-West region, said Pavel Kaplunov, Director General of Rostelecom-Data Center.[1]

Starting the cloud DataLine

The DataLine cloud in St. Petersburg restarted at another Rostelecom-Data Center site at ul. Zhukova, 43. Based on this data center, there are four cloud DataLine services: VMware virtual infrastructure, disaster recovery, Managed Kubernetes and DBaaS (database as a service). This was reported by DataLine on February 9, 2021.

Initially, the DataLine cloud accessibility zone St. Petersburg in was organized on the basis of a leased site. With the move of the cloud to this data center, the quality of services is fully ensured by the combined team Rostelecom"-" and DPC DataLine, which are jointly responsible for operating the infrastructure according to common standards for the data center network throughout. The data center is also suitable for geo-reservation: reserve resources can be placed on the St. Petersburg site in case of accidents. Due to network connectivity between data centers, customers can quickly switch to a replica in another city in the event of a disaster and continue to work.

The St. Petersburg data center was designed and launched in December 2020 according to the requirements of the Tier III standard. This gives customers the opportunity to build a fault-tolerant cloud. You can place a virtual infrastructure in the data center in accordance with a single SLA with an availability guarantee of 99.982%.
